About this opportunity
The United States Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service Pollinating Insect Research Unit is seeking to procure a Computed Radiography (CR) system, specifically the Fujifilm FCR Carbon XL or equivalent with an FDX Console Package. The system must support 24 x 30 cm reusable imaging plates with a throughput of at least 92 images per hour, high-resolution imaging capability at 50 microns, and integration with existing Faxitron MX-20 X-ray unit and Evo-View Diagnostic Workstation PACS. This equipment will support mission-critical research on pollinators of alfalfa seed crops and other solitary bees, with particular focus on examining bee nests and potential parasites. The evaluation will follow a Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) methodology, assessing technical capability on a pass/fail basis before evaluating price among technically acceptable submissions. Quotes are due by September 18, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET, and must be submitted electronically to winston.buchanan@usda.gov with all required representations and certifications completed through SAM.gov.
This procurement is designated as a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 334517 (Irradiation Apparatus Manufacturing) with a size standard of 1,000 employees, though one document references 1,200 employees. The government intends to award a firm fixed-price contract with delivery required within 30 days of order placement on an FOB Destination basis. No incumbent contractors or specific award values are mentioned in the solicitation materials, and quotes must remain firm for 60 calendar days following submission. The equipment will be delivered to the USDA/ARS Pollinating Insect Research Unit located at 2810 Old Main Hill, Utah State University, Logan, UT 84322. The period of performance is anticipated to run from September 22, 2025, to October 22, 2025, with the solicitation emphasizing that failure to acquire this equipment could negatively impact critical research on pollinator health and agricultural productivity.
