Notice text

This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial goods and commercial services prepared in accordance with the format in FAR subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; quotes are being requested, and a written solicitation will not be issued. The solicitation number is 12405B24Q0376 and is issued as a request for quotation (RFQ). The NAICS code is 423610. This solicitation document incorporates those provisions and clauses in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 2022-06. The USDA requires a Box Furnace with atmospheric retort per the attached required specifications.

  1. Chamber width greater than 27 cm.

  4. Chamber volume greater than 1.6 cubic feet.
  5. Maximum temperature range of 1050 °C.
  6. Minimum operating temperature of 350 °C.
  7. Suitable for nitrogen atmospheres.
  8. Equipped with temperature and high-limit controllers.

This equipment will replace current, but antiquated furnace/retort at Center. Current equipment is nearing end-of-life with controller parts no longer in production, and difficult to source. Current equipment is used to produce biochars for the Center, as well as other ARS units across the United States, and supports agreements with other federal agencies such as the EPA. Failure of the unit also poses a safety risk as a faulty controller could potentially lead to unstable temperatures in the unit.
