About this opportunity

The Department of the Air Force, Air Force Sustainment Center, is conducting market research to identify sources capable of repairing the B-52 APQ-166 Magnetron/Electron Tube (NSN 5960-01-318-0987, PN VMX-1849), with written responses due November 30, 2026. No set-aside is used, and the Government encourages both large and small businesses to respond, with joint ventures and teaming arrangements permitted. Respondents must demonstrate repair data, expertise, and experience to meet qualification requirements, and no samples are available for evaluation. The Government does not own the technical data required for organic repair, and it has determined that acquiring the data by purchase or reverse engineering is uneconomical. Contractor Port Industries (CPI, CAGE 88236) currently performs this repair under contract FA8539-22-D-0002, and it is the original manufacturer. The attached Contractor Capability Survey requests business size and certification information, facility and prior project experience, configuration management and inventory tracking capabilities, and cybersecurity and supply chain assessments covering foreign influence, NIST SP 800-171 compliance, and CMMC certification status. Per the PWS, the scope covers depot-level test, fault isolation, repair, and packaging under a firm-fixed-price requirements structure, with a one-year basic period, four 12-month ordering periods, and an optional six-month extension. The PWS also sets a maximum delivery rate of two units per month, ISO 9001:2000 quality management, MIL-STD-129R and MIL-STD-2073-1E packaging, and a 90-working-day delivery standard for MICAP and Joint Chiefs of Staff backorder requirements. Technical questions go to Program Manager Brenden Collins (brenden.collins@us.af.mil), and responses to andrew.adams.13@us.af.mil. The Government will not reimburse participation costs, and responses do not guarantee a future solicitation or award.
