About this opportunity
The Air Force Sustainment Center is conducting a Request for Information to identify non-commercial sources for manufacturing the B-52 Antenna APQ-166 Tilt Actuator, with responses due June 5, 2026. This is market research to determine acquisition strategy and small-business set-aside eligibility; participation does not ensure future contract award and the government will not reimburse response costs.
NAICS 334511 applies, with a small-business size standard of 1,250 employees. The original equipment manufacturer, MPC Products Corp., previously supplied the motor. The government requires 35 units and has determined that the complete technical data package is not owned internally and is uneconomical to acquire; contractors must explain their approach to overcome this limitation.
The tilt actuator is an electro-mechanical linear actuator that positions a radar antenna. Key specifications include a minimum stall force of 155 pounds, slew rates exceeding 7.3 inches per second no-load and 5.2 inches per second loaded, a stroke range of 9.67 to 12.38 inches, weight not exceeding 4.2 pounds, primary power of 150 VDC (±50V/−20V) at 3.0 amperes maximum, and MTBF of 40,000 operating hours. The actuator must meet form, fit, and function per drawing 377-10807 and T.O. 11B46-6-5-4.
Contractors must furnish all sub-components, materials, support equipment, tools, and test equipment, and maintain facilities with Secret clearance capability for classified material handling. Contractor-furnished replacement material or parts must equal or exceed original quality.
Responses should be directed to Lt. Brenden Collins at brenden.collins@us.af.mil.
Notice text
This RFI is being conducted to identify different potential Non-commercial sources in determining if a future contract effort can be competitively awarded and/or awarded on a total or partial Small Business Set-Aside basis. The applicable North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code assigned to this effort is 334511 (Search, Detection, Navigation, Guidance, Aeronautical, and Nautical System and Instrument Manufacturing) with the Small Business Size Standard of 1250 employees.
The motor was previously provided by the original equipment manufacturer for this item, MPC Products Corp. (19710). The Government has a current requirement to develop a new source of supply for the tilt actuator. The technical data required to manufacture is not owned by the Government and it is uneconomical to acquire the data.
Contractor shall furnish all sub-components, material, support equipment, tools, test equipment, and services. The contractor is responsible for providing, maintaining, and calibrating all support equipment required at their facility or a subcontractor’s facility. Contractor furnished material or parts used for replacement shall equal or exceed the quality of the original material or parts.
If the Government decides to award a contract for this or related effort, a solicitation will be published and posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website. The Government will use this information solely to determine the appropriate acquisition strategy for this procurement. The Government is interested in all small business concerns.
Contractors/Institutions responding to this market research are placed on notice that participation in this survey may not ensure participation in future solicitations or contract awards. The government will not reimburse participants for any expenses associated with their participation in this survey.
Interested sources may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirements. Interested sources must maintain facilities and cleared personnel for manufacturing, handling, storing, and maintaining information and operating systems with security classifications up to and including Secret.
