About this opportunity

The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), under the Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, has issued a Special Notice regarding the Rare disease AI/ML for Precision Integrated Diagnostics (RAPID) Proposers' Day. The notice describes a significant initiative aimed at addressing prolonged diagnostic delays for rare disease patients through advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. Originally scheduled for January 23, 2025, the event was ultimately cancelled, but remains a critical program for developing innovative diagnostic solutions. The RAPID program is structured as a 4.5-year, two-phase initiative that will explore comprehensive approaches to rare disease diagnostics using cutting-edge technological methodologies.

The RAPID program encompasses four technical areas focusing on rare disease dataset development, novel diagnostic indicators, sustainable AI diagnostic platforms, and model development. Contractors will be required to form collaborative teams to participate in the program, with Phase I spanning 21 months and dedicated to data aggregation and infrastructure development, followed by a 33-month Phase II emphasizing development, deployment, and validation. A draft Innovative Solutions Opening (ARPA-H-SOL-25-119) was anticipated for release in December 2024, targeting organizations with capabilities in AI/ML technologies, rare disease research, and advanced diagnostic methodologies. While the Proposers' Day was cancelled, interested parties were still encouraged to submit teaming profiles describing their capabilities and potential partnership interests. The program will be managed by ARPA-H's Proactive Health Office and is designed to support multiple awards across the identified technical areas.
