About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Science Center is conducting market research to identify qualified providers of accelerator mass spectrometer (AMS) radiocarbon analysis services, with responses due by August 21, 2026 at 0900 hours Eastern Time. This is a sources sought announcement, not a procurement or purchase commitment.
USGS requires AMS radiocarbon analyses on approximately 45 samples of organic material (wood, charcoal, or shell) from sediment outcrops and cores to support seismic hazards research along the West Coast of the United States and Alaska. The work includes sample preparation, physical isolation, chemical pretreatment, conversion to carbon dioxide and graphite, and radiocarbon dating. For shell samples, the contractor shall complete cleaning and hydrolysis prior to graphitization and measurement. Analyses must be completed within 60 days of receiving each batch with typical accuracies better than ±30 radiocarbon years, including d13C corrections. All work is performed at the contractor's facility. The period of performance runs from September 1, 2026 to September 30, 2028.
All responsible sources may submit a capability statement and relevant literature limited to 10 pages. Responses must be emailed to Contracting Officer Joahnne Ongjoco at Joahnne_Ongjoco@ios.doi.gov; hardcopy or other submission methods will not be accepted. The NAICS code is 541380 (Testing Laboratories and Services) with a $19 million size standard; the PSC code is B530 (Special Studies/Analysis—Seismological).
