About this opportunity
The Department of the Navy Naval Air Systems Command is announcing its intent to sole-source a firm-fixed-price contract to Task Aerospace, Inc. for the Task Aerospace PN 740055-1 cartridge actuated initiator and associated test fixture design, with the capability statement response due June 25, 2026.
This is not a competitive solicitation. The Navy invokes FAR 6.103-1, "Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements," to justify procurement from Task Aerospace alone. The contract will be awarded under an existing Basic Ordering Agreement between the Government and Task Aerospace. The estimated award date is July 2, 2026, with an estimated value of $850,000 and a period of performance from August 1, 2026 through August 1, 2027.
Place of performance is Indian Head, Maryland. The procurement supports the CAD/PAD Joint Program Office's objective to establish alternate sources of supply for JAU-72B/A Cartridge Actuated Initiators used as V-22 external initiators. Task Aerospace previously investigated V-22 external initiator performance requirements under NCRADA-NSWCIH-24-308 and developed its design; this acquisition of test samples and test fixture will verify the PN 740055-1 design performance. The V-22 external initiator initiates the ballistic sequence to detonate severance assemblies in an emergency aircrew escape scenario. The NAICS code is 541330, Engineering Services, and the PSC code is H113, Quality Control—Ammunition and Explosives.
Interested parties may submit capability statements for Government consideration prior to the closing date.
Notice text
This is a notice of intent to award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to Task Aerospace, Inc. (CAGE: 99YV8, UEI: URXHLS476EB4) for the acquisition of the Task Aerospace PN 740055-1 cartridge actuated initiator and its associated test fixture design. The U.S. Navy requires the procurement of developmental CAD/PAD technologies critical for the CAD/PAD Joint Program Office’s mission, specifically in widening the CAD/PAD JPO sources of supply for JAU-72B/A Cartridge Actuated Initiators. This acquisition will allow for feasibility testing of an alternate source of supply for the JAU-72B/A V-22 external initiators in support of the CAD/PAD Joint Program Office.
The estimated award date is 02 July 2026 and the estimated value is $850,000. The estimated period of performance is 01 August 2026 to 1 August 2027. The Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source, Task Aerospace, Inc., under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.103-1, "Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements."
Task Aerospace, Inc. investigated the V-22 external initiator and performance requirements from NCRADA-NSWCIH-24-308, developed their design for the V-22 external initiator, and now this acquisition of test samples and test fixture will verify the TASK PN 740055-1 performance. The V-22 external initiator initiates the ballistic sequence to detonate the severance assemblies in an emergency aircrew escape scenario. Additionally, this contract will be awarded under an existing Basic Ordering Agreement between the Government and Task Aerospace, Inc.
