About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs East Orange VA Medical Center Research and Development Department has issued a Special Notice of intent to award a sole source contract for a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) procurement. The notice specifically relates to acquiring an MBF Bioscience Stereo Investigator Stereology System for Dr. Yun-Beom Choi's laboratory, which is conducting research on traumatic brain injury, neuroinflammatory disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. The procurement is funded by the Office of Research & Development (ORD) Biomedical Laboratory Research and Development (BLRD) and focuses on upgrading an existing microscope system. The contract will involve a Leica DM4000 Microscope with specific upgrades for fluorescence microscopy. The notice emphasizes that this is not a competitive request for quotes, but rather a sole source procurement.
The primary objective of this procurement is to obtain a specialized scientific instrument that will enable unbiased quantification of cellular structures in biological samples from laboratory animal models of neurological diseases. Contractors interested in submitting a capability statement must do so by 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on February 20, 2025, and should send their responses directly to Chad M. Johnson, the Contracting Officer, via email. The vendor (MBF Bioscience) is expected to deliver the system within 90 days after order receipt, with the delivery location specified as the VA New Jersey Health Care System Logistics Receiving Warehouse. The contract includes additional services such as remote installation, training, and software upgrade support.
