About this opportunity

The Department of the Air Force Headquarters District Washington has issued a Special Notice for the replacement of a granite inscription panel at the Air Force Memorial (AFM). The notice addresses the need to replace one granite panel on the South Inscription Wall at the southern end of the AFM Plaza due to original errors and the need for additional engraved text information. The existing panel is made of Absolute Black Granite and measures approximately 90 inches in length, 70.5 inches in width, and 2.5 inches in depth. The replacement must be an exact match in terms of size, cut angle, depth, format, and letter font to maintain consistency with adjacent panels. This opportunity falls under the Sign Manufacturing NAICS category and involves Signs, Advertising Displays, and Identification Plates procurement. The posting date was August 15, 2025, though notably the due date appears to be July 30, 2025.

The primary objective of this Special Notice is to correct inscription errors and add updated text to a highly visible memorial site frequented by Generals and distinguished individuals. The replacement panel must be fabricated from Absolute Black Granite as a continuous piece without joints to ensure uniform appearance and prevent color variations. The notice indicates that Lorton Stone, LLC, the original contractor, possesses residual granite slabs from the initial project that would provide an exact match, along with the custom font graphics previously created for the memorial. The project requires precise matching to existing panels to maintain the memorial's professional appearance and visual consistency. No specific set-aside designation was applied to this opportunity, and contractors interested in this specialized granite fabrication and engraving work must demonstrate capability to meet the exacting specifications for this prestigious military memorial installation.

Notice text

The Air Force Memorial (AFM) requires replacement of one (1) granite inscription panel on the South Inscription Wall at the southern end of the AFM Plaza. The far west panel is to be replaced with a new granite panel that matches the existing granite in terms of size, cut angle, depth, format, and letter font. The replacement panel will feature corrected and updated text, replacing the exiting engraved text . existing panel is made of Absolute Black Granite, measuring approximately 90 inches in length, 70.5 inches in width, and 2.5 inches in depth. The replacement panel must be an exact match, using Absolute Black Granite matching the other existing panel (located side by side to the panel requiring replacement). The replacement panel must be a continuous panel with no joints or adjoined pieces to ensure a consistent and uniform appearance with existing panels. Matching the panels exactly is critical to prevent any discernible color variations and provides for consistency in the inscription font.

The AFM currently has 2 granite signs in place that used specific granite procured through the contractor, Lorton Stone, LLC. The contractor has residual granite slabs left from the original project that will serve as an exact match to the current project. Additionally, the contractor created custom font on this project and retained the font graphics in queue for future use. The project is highly visual since Generals and other distinguished individuals frequent the site. The granite signs need to be replaced due to original errors and additional engraving (text information added) needed on the signs.
