About this opportunity

The U.S. Geological Survey is conducting a market survey under NAICS 334511 to identify vendors capable of supplying acoustic telemetry systems for fish tagging, with responses due July 27, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. MST. This is a sources sought notice, not a solicitation; submission is voluntary and respondents bear all associated costs.

The required systems must operate at 69 kilohertz frequency with receivers capable of detecting and decoding 69 kHz transmitters using proprietary Generation 2 worldwide coding architecture to record fish identification numbers and sensor data. Systems must support DC power for 12-volt, solar-powered installations; interface with third-party dataloggers via ASCII protocol; provide cabled, real-time detection data capability; and utilize high-speed RS-485 cables with receiver-compatible Subcon connectors. Vendors must also offer turnkey, 69 kHz real-time acoustic fish telemetry systems with AC and DC power options, two-way cellular communications, detection alerts, remote data download capability, and remote API access. Systems are required in both fixed deployments (similar to USGS streamgages) and buoy-mounted configurations, and must integrate with existing 69 kHz Innovasea code tags.

USGS specifically solicits responses from Indian Small Business Economic Enterprises, HubZone small businesses, 8(a)-certified firms, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned small businesses, and other small businesses under the 1,350-employee size standard. Respondents must submit firm name, address, phone number, SAM UEI, a capability statement documenting relevant performance history within the last three fiscal years with owner and point-of-contact information, role in prior work, and socioeconomic status to Kekila_Keuma@ios.doi.gov. All firms must be registered in SAM. If sufficient interest and capability is not received from identified categories, any resulting solicitation may be issued unrestricted.
