About this opportunity

The Department of the Treasury's U.S. Mint has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking market research on accelerated distribution capabilities for Semiquincentennial commemorative circulating coins. This RFI is for information-gathering purposes only and does not constitute a formal solicitation or commitment to award a contract. The U.S. Mint is seeking qualified commercial entities that can supplement traditional Federal Reserve distribution channels to increase circulation velocity, expand geographic reach, maintain coin integrity and legal tender status, and preserve public trust in equitable access. Eligible respondents must operate high-volume retail transaction networks, manage national or regional coin handling operations, provide armored carrier or cash logistics services, operate coin-operated equipment networks, or serve cash-intensive industries. The U.S. Mint will evaluate submissions based on corporate information, annual coin processing volumes, geographic coverage, operational infrastructure details including security controls and inventory management systems, proposed distribution methodology, risk mitigation strategies, and data reporting capabilities. Responses are being accepted on a rolling basis through December 31, 2026, with submissions to be sent via email to Devin.Thomas@usmint.treas.gov and Colleen.Grinnell@usmint.treas.gov in PDF format.

No set-aside designations have been applied to this opportunity, and no incumbent contractors or award values are specified in the RFI. The market research effort is designed to inform potential future competitive solicitations and acquisition planning rather than to establish immediate procurement commitments. The initiative seeks to accelerate the distribution of anniversary coins within the current calendar year due to reduced coin demand through traditional banking channels. Specific quantity targets, contract values, and service timelines are not disclosed at this pre-solicitation stage. The U.S. Mint reserves the right to use information gathered to conduct follow-up communications, issue a competitive solicitation, or take no further action based on the responses received.

1. Notice

This Request for Information (RFI) is issued for market research purposes only. This RFI does not constitute a solicitation, Request for Proposal (RFP), or commitment to award a contract or agreement of any kind.

Responses are voluntary. The Government will not reimburse any costs associated with preparation or submission of a response.

Information obtained through this RFI may be used to refine acquisition strategy, assess industry capability, and evaluate potential alternate distribution approaches.

2. Background

The U.S. Mint authorized the production of standard circulating legal tender coins commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States (Semiquincentennial). These coins are intended for general circulation and transactional use.

Under traditional distribution, coins are produced and supplied through the Federal Reserve System to depository institutions and subsequently enter commerce through standard banking and retail channels.

Due to reduced coin demand through traditional banking channels, there is interest in assessing alternative commercial distribution mechanisms capable of accelerating circulation and increasing geographic availability within the current calendar year.
