About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center has issued a Special Notice for the procurement of a 67A MICRO BORESCOPE SYSTEM intended for use at NASA's Glenn Research Center. The agency intends to award a sole source contract to SPI Borescopes of Miami, Florida under Federal Acquisition Regulation authority 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), having determined that SPI Borescopes is the sole provider of this specialized equipment. The procurement will utilize commercial item acquisition procedures under FAR Parts 12 and 13, with a NAICS code of 333310 for Commercial and Service Industry Machinery Manufacturing. The contract opportunity was posted on August 4, 2025, with interested parties having until August 6, 2025, to respond.
The micro-borescope system is required to support high-resolution inspections of electric propulsion hardware, specifically for examining inaccessible thruster elements across multiple NASA projects. The system must include three interchangeable optical probes with varying diameters and viewing capabilities, along with integrated lighting, display screen, and image capture functionality for transferring photographic data to NASA computers. Interested organizations may submit written capabilities and qualifications to the designated procurement contacts by 1:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on August 6, 2025, though oral communications are not acceptable. The government will evaluate these submissions solely to determine whether to conduct the procurement on a competitive basis, though the decision to maintain sole source procurement remains at the government's discretion. The portable system will replace outdated borescopes and support Code LTS's current and future Electric Propulsion projects at various testing locations including JPL and Aerospace Corp.
