About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA's requirement for a micro-borescope system with specific technical specifications for electric propulsion hardware inspections. The system must include three interchangeable optical probes with varying capabilities: a 1.0 mm diameter non-articulating forward-view lens, a 2.0 mm diameter non-articulating side-view lens, and a 2.0 mm diameter forward-view lens with articulation. The base unit must have integrated lighting, a view screen for displaying still and video images, and image capture capability to removable media.

The proposed system will replace existing outdated borescopes and is intended for high-resolution inspections of inaccessible thruster elements across multiple NASA projects. It is designed to be highly portable for use at various testing locations including JPL and Aerospace Corp. The system will capture photographic information that can be transferred via physical media to NASA computers for data processing and visual analysis, specifically supporting Code LTS's current and future Electric Propulsion projects.

Statement of Work

Procured Item: Micro-borescope system with interchangeable optical probes and integrated image recording capability

The requested Borescope System captures and processes photographic information that will be transferred, via physical media, from the system base unit to NASA computers for data processing and visual analyses. The proposed hardware will be utilized for inspection and documentation purposes on the multiple current projects, and will have application to future Electric Propulsion projects performed by Code LTS. Additionally, it is highly portable so that it can readily be used for similar investigations at other testing locations (JPL, Aerospace Corp, etc).

The borescope system requirements include:

1. Small diameter non-articulating forward-view optical lens to allow visual inspection of physical cavities down to approximately 1.0 mm diameter.

2. Small diameter non-articulating optical lens to allow visual inspection of physical cavities down to approximately 2.0 mm diameter and includes Side-view capability.

3. Small diameter forward-view optical lens to allow visual inspection of physical cavities down to approximately 2.0 mm diameter with articulating capability.

4. All lenses have integrated lighting. Lens required to have length of at least 1.0 m.

5. Base unit compatible with each of the lenses, includes lighting power and control, integrated view screen to display still and video images, image capture capability to removable media.

This system is required to replace existing antiquated borescopes that lack the capabilities required to perform high resolution inspections of electric propulsion hardware and capture detailed images from inaccessible thruster elements.
