About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration (VA) is conducting a Sources Sought notice for a cost-per-test or reagent rental for fully automated blood culture testing at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The procurement will involve providing specific medical laboratory testing products, specifically BACT/ALERT FN PLUS and FA PLUS blood culture bottles. This notice is a market research effort to understand potential vendor capabilities for a five-year contract, with responses due by February 11, 2025. Interested parties must demonstrate capabilities specific to medical laboratory testing services, including potential ASE and/or I-CAR certifications. The procurement falls under NAICS code 621511 for Medical Laboratories, with a small business size standard of $41.5 million.

The pre-solicitation notice indicates no specific set-aside for small businesses, despite the NAICS size standard. The contract anticipates purchasing 60 cases per year of each blood culture bottle type, delivered to the VA Medical Center's warehouse in Minneapolis. While no specific award value is mentioned, the five-year contract duration suggests a potentially substantial procurement opportunity. The Product Service Code (PSC) for this procurement is Q301, categorized as Medical-Reference Laboratory Testing. Vendors responding to the Sources Sought notice will not be compensated for their submissions, and the government emphasizes that this is not a formal solicitation for proposals or pricing, but rather an information-gathering exercise to support market research for a future procurement.
