About this opportunity
The 60th Maintenance Squadron at Travis Air Force Base is seeking to procure a Bauer Model 8071 Wheel Build-Up Stand and a Bauer Model 8731 Wheel Assembly Torque System along with associated equipment for aircraft wheel assembly operations. The Department of the Air Force Air Mobility Command issued this pre-solicitation notice on April 3, 2026, with a deadline for questions or information requests by April 14, 2026. The equipment must meet strict specifications including the ability to simultaneously torque two nuts with 2% accuracy at maximum torque and 1-degree torque angle accuracy, with a torque range of 45-225 ft-lbs. The wheel build-up stand must accommodate wheel diameters ranging from 16" to 24" and tire diameters from 37" to 50". The procurement is being issued as a Request for Information rather than an official solicitation at this stage, allowing interested parties to submit questions and clarify requirements before a formal solicitation is released.
This opportunity carries no set-aside designation and represents a brand name requirement specific to Bauer equipment models. The contractor selected must deliver and install the complete system at Travis Air Force Base within 120 days of contract award and provide on-site installation, training services, an end-user manual, and a one-year standard equipment warranty. The procurement includes wheel adapters compatible with C-5, C-17, and KC-46 aircraft, a wheel lifting fixture, and torque standard calibration equipment. While no specific budget range has been disclosed in this pre-solicitation notice, the requirement addresses critical maintenance capability gaps, as the current torque system is inoperative with unavailable replacement parts and the existing wheel build-up stand has reached end of life. Points of contact for the 60th Maintenance Squadron are TSgt Zavaien McBride and SSgt Raygene Ladia at 707-424-2164.
