About this opportunity
NASA Ames Research Center seeks a 5-axis Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) milling machine with tooling, warranty, and five days of on-site operator training, with proposals due June 16, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. PST (extended by Amendment P00002 from the original June 15 deadline). This is an unrestricted, firm-fixed-price acquisition under FAR Part 12 for commercial products and services; no small business set-aside applies.
Delivery and installation must occur within ninety days of order receipt at NASA Ames Research Center Building N220, Moffett Field, California, with operator training completion required by September 30, 2026. Delivery is FOB Destination.
The machine must be a 5-axis vertical machining center with RAM structure and trunnion table, minimum travels of X=889mm, Y=762mm, Z=635mm, A-axis rotation of −120 to +20 degrees (or accepted alternative of ±115 degrees per Amendment P00001), and 360-degree C-axis rotation. Minimum linear accuracy is 0.0063mm, spindle minimum 15,000 RPM with CAT40 Big Plus taper, 25kW minimum power, and 300nm maximum torque. Controller must be Heidenhain, Siemens, Matsuura, or Fanuc-based with native CAMplete TruePath simulation support. Magazine capacity minimum 50 tools (or HSK63 alternative accepted). Coolant system requires 500 psi minimum flood and through-spindle capacity with 378-liter minimum tank. The machine must include 50-tool magazine population (50 percent MEGA E Chuck or equivalent, 50 percent ER20 Dual Contact) plus laser probe calibrator. Warranty covers full machine for one year and spindle for two years.
Offerors must provide a Certificate of Conformance per QR-005 with each shipment. NAICS code is 333517, size standard 500 employees; offerors must state their size status. Questions deadline was extended to June 11, 2026, with Questions and Answers #1 posted. Submissions after June 16, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. PST that are incomplete or missing required documentation will not be accepted. Period of performance runs through September 30, 2026. Amendment P00002 serves to extend the RFQ submission deadline by one day, moving it from 9:00 AM PST on June 15, 2026, to 9:00 AM PST on June 16, 2026. This extension is granted to provide all vendors with the opportunity to submit any outstanding information, attachments, and Enclosure 1-80ARC026Q0002 - SF1449 fill-ins as previously required. Please be advised that no further extensions will be granted. Submissions that are incomplete, missing documentation or fill-ins, or are received after the extended deadline will not be accepted or considered for further evaluation.
Amendment P00001: The purpose of this amendment is to formally extend the deadline for submitting questions and answers from 9:00 AM PST on June 9, 2026, to 9:00 AM PST on June 11, 2026. This notice is being issued as Request for Quotations (RFQ) under solicitation number80ARC026Q0002 for a 5-axis Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Milling Machine with tooling, warranty and Standard machine operation training (5 days on-site minimum) after machine is powered up and ready for operation per the Statement of Work (SOW).

FAR 52.212-2, Evaluation -- Commercial Products and Commercial Services (NOV 2025). The Government will award a contract resulting from this solicitation to the offer responsible, whose offer conforming to the solicitation will be most advantageous to the Government, price and other factors considered. The following factors are in descending order of importance and must be used to evaluate offers:

Technical acceptability will be determined by review of information submitted by the offeror which must provide a description in sufficient detail to show that the product offered meets the Government's requirement. Technical acceptability and Maintenance and Repair Build-up, when combined, are approximately equal to cost or price. The Government technical evaluation team shall evaluate the technical proposals on a Meets/Does Not Meet basis, assigning a rating of Meet or Does Not Meet using the descriptions in the below table “Technical Acceptability Ratings”. Any Offeror rated “Does Not Meet” under the technical factor will not be considered for award and will not be evaluated further. An award will be made to the offeror whose quotation represents the best value to the Government when the above listed evaluation factors are considered. Any alternatives to the SOW will be approved upon review. Please provide a data sheet if submitting alternatives.
