About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Air Combat Command is seeking to procure two Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) through a sole source procurement. The government specifically requires drones that mirror deployed equipment to ensure seamless operator transition and effectiveness. This procurement is governed by specific legislative guidelines, including the FY20 and FY23 National Defense Authorization Acts and the American Security Drone Act, which restrict drone acquisitions from certain covered countries. The procurement is being conducted in partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), which has evaluated and approved authorized drone manufacturers through the Blue UAS Cleared List. The pre-solicitation notice indicates a short response window, with proposals due by June 6, 2025, and was originally posted on June 2, 2025.
The contract opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, focusing on the Aircraft Manufacturing NAICS category (336411) and the Unmanned Aircraft Product Service Code (1550). While specific award values are not disclosed in the pre-solicitation notice, the procurement is specifically for two SkyDio X10 drones, suggesting a targeted and precise acquisition strategy. The sole source nature of the procurement indicates a direct acquisition from a specific manufacturer that meets the government's stringent requirements for drone technology. The contract aligns with broader governmental objectives of securing technologically advanced, domestically-approved unmanned aircraft systems for military applications. The procurement reflects a strategic approach to acquiring specialized drone technology that meets strict security and operational compatibility standards.
