The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 15 is conducting market research through a Sources Sought Notice for barcode scanners to support Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) system expansion under the VA Electronic Health Record Modernization initiative, with responses due March 9, 2026.
The requirement specifies brand-name equipment only: 697 Honeywell Xenon Ultra 1962H cordless scanners and 574 Honeywell Xenon 1960H corded scanners. Delivery spans nine VA medical centers across Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois with facility-specific quantity allocations.
Scanners must meet FIPS 140-2 compliance, support 1D and 2D bar code reading via camera-based area imagers, and pre-program to VA BCMA defaults. Compliance with ISBT 128 blood bank and GS-1 standard bar code symbologies is required. Minimum technical specifications include omnidirectional scanning with three-inch focal distance, weight under 16 ounces, 20-foot transmission range for cordless units, IP seal rating greater than 40, ability to withstand 4-foot drops, and CDC-approved disinfection method compatibility. Cordless units must deliver battery life exceeding 2,000 recharge cycles with charging time under three hours. All equipment includes one-year minimum warranty beginning after acceptance, vendor-provided technical support, free firmware upgrades installable in the field, and complete electronic operator and service manuals at no charge.
