About this opportunity

The Defense Logistics Agency Aviation intends to solicit a Request for Proposal for the 20mm Mechanical Housing (NSN 1005-01-190-9802, P/N 209F953), with synopsis posting June 24, 2026. The Government seeks sources with expertise, capabilities, and experience in qualification and production of this transfer unit assembly. This is a first-time competitive acquisition (AMSC 2/C), though the item requires engineering source approval by the design control activity to maintain part quality. Qualified sources retain data rights, manufacturing knowledge, and technical data not economically available to the Government and essential to maintaining quality. Alternate sources must qualify in accordance with design control activity procedures.

The transfer unit mechanically transfers live rounds from feed chute to feeder assembly and empty cases from unload drive assembly into conveyor elements in return chute. Gear-driven sprocket assemblies and guides maintain positive control of rounds and conveyor elements. The unit integrates with the M61A1 gun feeder and is gear-driven by the gun itself. Prospective bidders should possess advanced manufacturing capability and knowledge specific to precision ordnance ammunition handling systems, particularly experience with gear-driven mechanical transfer mechanisms and M61A1 gun platform integration.

NAICS 332994 (Small Arms, Ordnance, and Ordnance Accessories Manufacturing) and PSC 1005 (Guns, Through 30mm) apply.
