About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center has published a Special Notice for the sole source procurement of 120 Science Pump Corporation (SPC) ozonesondes to support atmospheric research operations at Wallops Island and Natal, Brazil. The agency intends to award this contract directly to Science Pump Corporation of Camden, New Jersey, under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i) authority, having determined that SPC is the sole provider of these specialized instruments. The procurement will be conducted as a commercial acquisition using FAR Parts 12 and 13 procedures, with a NAICS code of 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing. Performance will be managed through NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The contract encompasses the supply of electrochemical concentration cell ozonesondes that are critical for maintaining long-term atmospheric measurement records.
The purpose of this procurement is to acquire specialized ozonesondes that will support multi-decadal balloon-borne ozone profile records used for satellite validation, pollution trend analysis, and climate studies over a performance period from September 2025 to August 2026. Interested organizations have until 3:10 p.m. Central Standard Time on August 12, 2025, to submit written capabilities and qualifications demonstrating their ability to perform this work. These submissions will be evaluated solely to determine whether the procurement should be conducted on a competitive basis, though the government reserves discretion in making this determination. Only written communications are acceptable, and oral responses will not be considered. The requirement emphasizes using SPC ozonesondes specifically to ensure consistency with existing measurement records and compatibility with current ground data collection systems at both research stations, supporting NASA's ongoing atmospheric and climate science research initiatives.
