About this file
This document contains equipment specifications from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Wildlife Resources division for the procurement of air-forced, boomed fertilizer and seed applicators. The agency requires three units total, available in two configurations: pull-behind models and bed-mounted units compatible with UTV platforms, specifically the Polaris Ranger XP 1000 and CanAm Defender HD. Each unit must feature a 12-volt electric or minimum 9-horsepower gas-powered fan engine, an hopper capacity of 18 cubic feet for pull-behind and 10 cubic feet for bed-mounted units, and an adjustable broadcast boom configured to 24 feet wide with 8 to 16 evenly-spaced dispersion plates. Additional requirements include electronic rate controllers with speed-adjusted application rates, seeding shafts or metering rollers for both coarse and fine seed applications, fan pressure monitoring sensors, seed level sensors or sight gauges, and appropriate wiring and cable lengths enabling operation from the UTV driver's seat.
Pull-behind units must not exceed 1,500 pounds and specific dimensional constraints of 72 inches height, 82 inches width, and 103 inches length, while bed-mounted units are limited to 350 pounds with maximum dimensions of 44 inches height, 32 inches width, and 46 inches length. In-state vendors will have units picked up by IDNR Wildlife Resources staff at their locations, while out-of-state vendors must ship units to the Gibson City, Illinois IDNR field office. The specifications require complete hoses, connectors, and diverters, as well as a clevis-type hitch for pull-behind configurations.
