About this file
This PDF contains detailed inspection photos and recommendations for a 501,000 gallon Bolted Ground Storage Tank (GST). The document provides a comprehensive assessment of the tank's current conditions across multiple system components, including tank floor, security, exterior coatings, interior conditions, shell accessories, access points, foundation, and grounding.
Key recommendations include: installing sacrificial cathodic protection rods beneath the tank floor, implementing security fencing and signage, pressure washing the exterior, installing insulation, performing an interior dry cleanout to remove sediment, adding heating elements, installing an anti-vortex plate, adding sacrificial anodes for cathodic protection, addressing foundation drainage and concrete cracking, and making various safety and maintenance improvements such as installing a cable-type safety climb device on the shell ladder and a lock on the primary roof hatch. The images document each area of assessment with detailed close-up and wide-angle views, providing visual evidence of the tank's current condition and areas requiring maintenance or upgrade.

Recommendations:
Install sacrificial cathodic protection rods radially every 15' beneath the floor of the tank.
Tank Floor Sacrificial Cathodic Protection
501,000 Gallon Bolted GST
Current Conditions:
The tank is not secured by a fence and does not have signage to deter unauthorized access.
Recommendations:
Install a fence and proper signage. *Fence installation to be done by others.*
Security
Recommendations :
● Pressure wash the tank exterior with an antifungal solution.
● Install a prefabricated, vertical standing seam panel insulation system.
Current Conditions :
● The tank's exterior coating is in good condition; however, it needs to be cleaned.
● The tank is not currently insulated.
Coatings
Exterior
Exterior
● Perform a dry interior cleanout to remove sediment. *WORK SHOULD BE PERFORMED ON AN
EMERGENCY BASIS.*
Current Conditions :
● The tank has excessive sediment buildup.
Coatings

● Abrasive blast all interior areas to a SSPC-SP10 (near white) then apply a 80-100 mil thick monolithic 100% solids/zero VOC lining system. The elastomeric properties allow for expansion and contraction of the substrate caused by thermal shifts and weight. This coating meets the NSF 61/600 and FDA requirements for food contact. This coating would only be applied to the floor and shell of the tank.
Current Conditions :
● The lifespan of bolted tanks can be extended by installing a protective coating system.

● Install a cable-type safety climb device on the shell ladder.
● Install a Fall Protection Required sign near the base of the shell ladder.
Current Conditions :
● The shell ladder is not in compliance for the following reason: Does not have a compliant cable-type safety climb device.
● There is currently no signage at the base of the shell ladder.
