About this file
This file is a Purchase Description (PD) for U.S. Army Caisson Detachment ceremonial horse tack, detailing comprehensive specifications for an intricate tack package. The detailed document specifies 56 unique tack components across multiple categories including martingales, breast collars, traces, reins, and bridle components, with precise measurements and construction requirements for each item. The tack set is designed for ceremonial and training purposes, with one ceremonial set (using leather and brass) and two training sets (using BioThane or synthetic materials) required per Caisson horse.
The tack package is extremely detailed, specifying exact dimensions for each component, such as 49-inch breast collars with reinforced steel D-rings, 115-inch near reins, and 31-inch nosebands with specific adjustment hole configurations. The components are designed for the U.S. Army Caisson Detachment's approximately 60 horses, which conduct memorial affairs and state funeral missions at Arlington National Cemetery. The purchase description includes specifications for lead, swing, and wheel horse configurations, with variations in trace lengths, D-ring placements, and strap configurations to accommodate different horse positions in the ceremonial team.
