SUMMARY OF CHANGES
Section A - Solicitation/Contract Form
The following changes have been made:
Miscellaneous text in this section has been modified to:
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION:
QUESTION 1: All guardrail components must meet or exceed MASH (Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware) Level 2 standards Level 2 - indicates 12'06" posts spacing where the following states the posts spacing is 6'03" b. Posts shall be driven to a minimum depth of 40" and spaced approximately 6' 3" apart. Please clarify posts spacing required?
RESPONSE 1: MASH Level 2 standards call for 6' 3" spacing and that is what the specifications call for in the scope of work. We are aware that for low-speed road areas under 45 mph, MASH standards allow spacing to be 12' 3". However, for this project the specifications require spacing of 6' 3". Spacing of 12' 3" will not be accepted.
QUESTION 2: Please clarify what is required to be installed at the ends of the proposed guardrails, since terminal ends and flared ends are different guardrail end types?
RESPONSE 2: The Contractor shall install rounded terminal ends that match the existing guardrail ends. The Statement of Work has been revised to remove the term "flared ends".
QUESTION 3: Crash-rated flared end terminals are a highway application and cannot be physically installed at the terminal end locations at this site given the existing site configuration.
Could you please clarify whether the specification requires crash-rated flared end terminals, or whether standard hot-dip galvanized terminal end sections are acceptable for this installation?
RESPONSE 3: Please see the response to Question 2. Crash-rated flared end terminals are not required and standard hot-dip galvanized terminal end sections are acceptable.
QUESTION 4: Can you please confirm if the wood posts and blocks need to meet MassDOT specifications, #1 PT (Pressure-Treated) Rough SYP (Southern Yellow Pine) UC4B Heavy Retention?
RESPONSE 4: Yes, wood posts and blocks shall meet the MassDot specifications for #1 PT (Pressure-Treated) Rough SYP (Southern Yellow Pine) UC4B Heavy Retention. The Statement of
W912WJ26QA1210003
Work has been revised to reflect this and to remove the Douglas Fir language from Section II.12 Products.
