AMENDMENT 0001
Westville Electrical Upgrades project, pre-bid site visit, 22 August 2018
AM 0001 Questions and Responses:
1. How deep are the handholes?
Response: The handholes are shown on Plan Sheet TH-1-1689 ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION PLANS AND DETAILS” contained within the Information Drawings. The handholes are considered confined space.
2. Are the handholes dry?
Response: Yes, the amount of water that accumulates in the bottom of the holes is less than one inch.
3. Are the wires that the Contractor is to pull in the gatehouse from the operating level down to the lower level to the limitorques in the concrete walls?
Response: As shown on Plan TH-1-1690 CONTROL HOUSE AND SPILLWAY ELECTRICAL PLANS, contained within the Information Drawings, the conductors are within the concrete walls.
4. Is the lower level of the gatehouse considered confined space?
Response: No, the lower level of the gatehouse is not considered confined space.
5. Will the Contractors have a requirement to generate an exit plan from the lower level of the gatehouse?
Response: No, the Contractor does not have a requirement to generate an exit plan from the lower level of the gatehouse.
6. Is there an exit plan for the lower level that the Corps has?
Response: No, there is no exit plan that the Corps has.
7. On Plan Sheet E-602, Detail A1, two wire sizes are shown for the same wire. Is it #6 or #2/0 size?
Response: 4-2/0 are the phase conductors...quantity of 4 and the wire size is 2/0 1-6AWG is the ground conductor.
Plan Sheet E-602, Detail A1 should read:
W912WJ18B0019
PROVIDE 4-2/0
& 1-6AWG GND
IN EXISTING 2"
CONDUIT
Revised Plan Sheet E-602 attached.
8. Are Contractors to replace the Panel in the Storage Building, PP-SG?
Response: Yes, as per Plan Sheet E-103, Detail A6, the Contractors are to replace the Panel PP-SG in the Storage Building.
9. Are Contractors to replace the wiring from the panel to the first device in the storage building? In the storage building, first devices include things like the saw or receptacles. If this is really the case, then replacing the wires means installing extra wiring that isn’t needed.
Response: As per Plan Sheet E-602, Detail A1, Note 12 states: “PROVIDE NEW BRANCH CIRCUIT WIRING FROM THE FIRST DEVICE IN EACH CIRCUIT TO NEW PANEL PP-SG”. The intent of this statement is to avoid splices due to insufficient wire length.
10. Is it the intent of this project to snake wires through the walls of the gatehouse to get to the first device?
Response: Yes. As per Note 3 on Plan Sheet E-102, “WIRING FROM FIRST DEVICE IN EACH CIRCUIT TO BE REPLACED…” There are existing pull boxes to aid in this effort. Refer to Information Drawings that are included in the Plan Set for locations of these pull boxes.
11. Are we replacing ALL the wires? Or just to the first device? This statement is not needed in the storage garage and the Project Office.
Response: As per Plan Sheet E-602, Detail A1, Note 12, which states “PROVIDE NEW BRANCH CIRCUIT WIRING FROM THE FIRST DEVICE IN EACH CIRCUIT TO NEW PANEL PP-SG“, and Plan Sheet E-602, Detail A1, Note 8, which states “…PROVIDE NEW BRANCH CIRCUIT WIRING FROM THE FIRST DEVICE IN EACH CIRCUIT TO NEW PANEL PP- UB,” Contractors are to replace the wiring from the panel to the first device in each circuit in both the storage garage, and the Project Office (also known as the Utility Building). The intent of this statement is to avoid splices due to insufficient wire length.
