SECTION 03 11 19.00 06 Page 10

3.4 ICF INSTALLATION

The ICF Installation shall be in accordance with the ICF manufacturer's installation and technical manual. Provide bracing and shoring to ensure stability of formwork to prevent overstressing of ICF units due to construction loads in accordance with ACI 301 . Anchor formwork to supporting surfaces to prevent upward or lateral movement of the ICF units during concrete placement. Place sleeves, inserts, anchors, and embedded items required for adjoining work or for support of adjoining work before concrete placement. Align fastener strips to facilitate interior and exterior wall finishes including control joints required in the gypsum board in accordance with UFGS Section 09 29 00 GYPSUM BOARD. Install concrete reinforcement according to the structural drawings at all walls, lintels, beams, and around openings. Install window and door bucks at each location where an opening is required. Install metal starter track on the footing and affix to first ICF course to ensure that base of wall does not become misaligned during concrete placement. Install alignment bracing around the entire wall of the structure to ensure the ICF system is straight and plumb before and during concrete placement.

3.5 WALL PENETRATIONS

Service penetrations including electrical service conduits, water service pipes, air supply, and exhaust ducts shall be installed at the required locations as indicated in the drawings. Service penetrations exceeding 16 inches x 16 inches shall be reinforced. Prior to concrete placement, install service penetration sleeves (supplied by others) at designated locations to create voids where services can be passed through at later date.

3.6 CONCRETE PLACEMENT

Prior to concrete placement inside the EPS form units, the general contractor shall notify the contracting officer's representative (COR) when all of the EPS form units, reinforcing, alignment, bracing systems, embedded items, etc. are erected. The COR shall inspect erected work.

Any ICF surfaces that are out of plane by more than 1/4 inch shall be corrected to the satisfaction of the COR at no additional cost to the government. Deposit concrete in horizontal layers of depth to not exceed formwork design pressures. Discharge (drop) height for concrete placement, shall not exceed 4 feet with total placement height not exceeding 16 feet per placement or less as may be limited by the allowable formwork design pressures. As soon as the first concrete placement has cured adequately, the Contractor shall demonstrate that adequate consolidation can be achieved and segregation does not occur with an 8 foot discharge height. Demonstration shall be satisfied by a limited placement with an 8 foot discharge height, where the insulation is later removed in multiple locations including the base of the wall, to verify consolidation has been achieved and that segregation has not occurred.

Subsequent to acceptance by the Government's Quality Assurance personnel, the same methods shall be followed by the Contractor for further placements. Maximum discharge (drop) height may be reduced to 4 feet by the Government at any time due to unacceptable quality issues. If concrete cannot be placed in a continuous pour, provide construction joints as indicated. Consolidate placed concrete with mechanical vibrating equipment conforming to ACI 301 . The ICF surface shall be plane and plumb, with no deviation greater than 1/4 inch in any direction when tested with a 10 foot straightedge for both the inside face of the EPS form units and the outside face of the EPS form units OR shall not exceed

SECTION 03 11 19.00 06 Page 11 the tolerances specified in ACI 117 , whichever is more stringent.

3.7 CLEANING

Clean formed cavities, within ICF units, of debris and foreign matter prior to concrete placement. Clean up and properly dispose of all debris remaining on job site related to the installation of the ICF system, recycling materials as required.

3.8 PROTECTION

Provide temporary coverage of installation of ICF system to reduce exposure to ultraviolet light if insulation will be exposed longer than 60 days.

3.9 POST-INSTALLATION QUALITY CONTROL

The contractor shall include, as part of their Installation Quality Control Plan, an acceptable means of non-destructive (or repaired, destructive) survey of 5 percent of the wall system. Means and methods may include but are not limited to: removal/inspection/replacement of insulation, ground penetrating radar (GPR), X-ray, probe-testing (with a small diameter, sharp object marked with insulation thickness), or other DOR approved method. At least two methods shall be included in the plan (secondary for verification of the primary).

The locations of areas to be tested shall include: the bottom of placements at foundation level and when placed at cold joints on top of previous placements; around door, window, and other penetrations; in locations of higher amounts of reinforcement such as corners, T-intersections, below concentrated loads, etc.; where continuing QC inspection indicates types of locations to be problematic; and where might otherwise be directed by Government Quality Assurance personnel.

If defects are noted in any of these surveyed areas, the percentage of survey shall be increased to 20 percent of that wall placement. If additional defects are noted in the additional surveyed areas then 100% of the wall system shall be surveyed. All defects shall be repaired. See paragraph 2.4.1 in this section for the definition of a defect.

3.10 ACCEPTANCE PROVISIONS

3.10.1 Government Inspections

As areas of ICF installation are completed, the COR may perform minimally destructive probe testing around at least 5 percent of the openings, in areas of high rebar concentration, in suspect areas, and in randomly government-selected locations prior to installation of finishes.

3.10.2 Non-Compliance

Any areas determined as not acceptable as a result of the government quality assurance inspections or the contractor's quality control inspections, shall be investigated further by the Contractor at no additional cost to the government by insulation removal that exposes at least four inches of sound concrete (acceptable to the COR) beyond the area in question. The COR shall be present during this investigation.

SECTION 03 11 19.00 06 Page 12

3.10.3 Repair

All repairs shall be at no additional cost to the government. For concrete and reinforcement repair, see UFGS SECTION 03 30 00 CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE. For insulation repair, provide screeded spray foam of comparable R-value to the removed insulation, or other COR approved method.
