RFI'S AMENDMENT 02
RFI’s and answers- Syracuse Armory Roofing Project
- Will Syracuse bid opening be extended?
o Yes bid opening is now 9/22/2020 11:00am at the Syracuse Armory – if you are attending please email Melissa.Santoro2.civ@mail.mil no later than 2:00pm on 9/21/2020.
- Carlisle and Firestone state the application of foaming/adhering ISO directly to metal deck will not meet warranty as specified.”
o Please refer to the loading and design criteria found in the Design Analysis of the design documents. The government cannot comment on 3rd party observations.
- Is the roof hatch/smoke vent to be replaced (Note R21/AD-101)? – If so please provide spec o Yes, refer to the Project Specifications document.\
- Detail A5/A102 dimensions fascia at 5 ½”, existing fascia is 8”. New fascia my not provided adequate coverage. Please advise~ We may have a similar situation at detail A6/A102 o A5/A102 refers to the lower roof (Roof Area #001) fascia. A6/A102 refers to the high roof edge.
Both details are correct.
- Please confirm there is an existing expansion joint per F6/AD-102. It was not obvious on our walkthrough, possibly buried under stone.
o Yes, there is an expansion joint.
- What is the reason for adhering insulation to the metal deck (roof assembly #3 A-101)?
o This is to avoid penetrations into the exposed metal roof deck over the drill hall portion of the armory.
- I have sent an inquiry into the manufacturers (Carlisle and Firestone) to confirm that the system as specified will meet the wind uplift and hail requirements. Typically roof insulation must be fastened to meet wind uplift and the coverboard must be adhered to meet hail requirements o Please refer to the loading and design criteria found in the Design Analysis of the design documents. The government cannot comment on 3rd party observations.
- Please note also that fastening through the metal deck, and the removal of stone ballast causing deflection of the metal deck, may have an adverse effect on the fireproofing below the deck at areas where applied.
o The contractor is responsible for bringing all adjacent areas/surfaces affected by the roof replacement construction to pre-construction conditions.
- There is electrical conduit attached to the decking that may interfere with the drill hall of the new installation, should this be relocated? All the conduit associated with the existing lighting in the building. It was something they noticed during the physical site inspection that the lighting conduit was connected to the underside of the decking.
o There should be no reason to relocate the lighting conduit inside the drill hall.
- Is the contractor responsible for all Fire-Proofing?
o Yes.
- What is the desired pitch of the roof and accompanying taper to be? There is conflicting information in the contract documents. 5” with ¼” taper?
o Provide finished slopes that match structural slopes and tapered insulation at cricket locations as indicated on the drawings.
- Crack of 8”, is this to be 8’? Keynote 19. Is this a singular occurrence or are there more instances?
o 8” crack, singular occurrence. See page 13, Armory Evaluation Report.
- Is there any ACM’s on the current drain piping or drain bowls that would need to be abated and if so, are you taking care of that?
o Review the Asbestos Survey and Lead Paint Testing Report. The drain bowl/piping was not included in the survey as this was not suspected ACM. Should the insulation be deemed suspected ACM, then HAZMAT testing/abatement would be required by the contractor.
- Is it the Owner’s intention to complete this project this calendar year?
o The project must be completed within the specified POP.
- The spec 072200-2.1.4 calls for tapered slope ¼”/ft Per drawings A101 Existing roof decks are sloped 1/8”/ft. Is that means we need to provide tapered iso 1/8” / ft over slopped deck to make total of ¼”/ft?
o Provide finished slopes that match structural slopes and tapered insulation at cricket locations as indicated on the drawings. No additional roof access is available.
