SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

1.1.1 Project Description

The work includes constructing an earthen dike revetted with riprap and raising and realigning the existing Pomona Rincon Road. The oonstructed dike and roadway will completely encircle the protected area. The project will include excavation, backfill, roadway paving, drainage culverts, and landscaping.

The Yorba Slaughter Adobe Protection will be constructed in phases, mainly for the purpose of preloading a portion of the foundation on which the relocated road section will be constructed and allowing the anticipated settlement to occur. Following completion of the Phase 1 road embankment surcharge, it is estimated that the required settlement for the portion of the roadway between Station 7+60 to 12+00 will occur over a period of approximately 7 to 10 months. The actual time required to complete the settlement may vary. Based upon the actual settlement, the Contracting Officer will notify the Contractor as to when he may proceed with Phase 2.

The Government will notify the Contractor 30 calendar days prior to the start of Phase 2. The Contractor should incorporate this time and phasing into their construction schedule and sequencing.

Phase 1 is defined as Sta 3+80 to Sta 10+60 of the dike and Sta. 7+60 to Sta. 19+00 of the roadway. Phase 2 will complete the construction of the dike and roadway.

1.1.2 Protection

1.1.2 Protection of Existing Historic Property

Before beginning any work, the Contractor shall survey the historical structures and examine the drawings and specifications to determine the extent of the work. The Contractor shall take necessary precautions to avoid damage to existing historic items, such as the Adobe Museum, rubble wall, and winery barn, that are to remain in place in accordance with SECTION 01 57 20 ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION. Care will also be taken to avoid damage to the cactus on the northeast corner of the property. The Contractor shall construct and maintain shoring, bracing and supports, as required.

1.2 PUBLIC UTILITIES, NOTICES, AND RESTRICTIONS

1.2.1 General

The approximate location of all pipe lines, power and communication lines, and other utilities known to exist within the limits of the work are indicated on the drawings. The sizes, locations, and names of owners of such utilities are given from available information, but their accuracy is not guaranteed. Except as otherwise indicated on the drawings, all

SECTION 01 11 00 Page 3 existing utilities will be left in place and the Contractor shall conduct his operations in such a manner that the utilities will be protected from damage at all times, or arrangements shall be made by the Contractor for their relocation at the Contractor's own expense. The Contractor shall be responsible for any damage to utilities known to exist and shall reimburse the owners for such damage caused by his operations.

1.2.2 Relocation or Removal by others

Utilities to be relocated or removed not as part of this contract are designated "To be Relocated by Others" or "To be Removed by Others", respectively. Utility relocations shown on the drawings as "By Others" are expected to be completed prior to the start of Phase 2 of this contract, or as otherwise indicated on the drawings, and should be protected from damage. Utilities shown on the plans and not so designated will be left in place and be subject to the provisions of the CONTRACT CLAUSE: PROTECTION OF EXISTING VEGETATION, STRUCTURES, UTILITIES, AND IMPROVEMENTS. The Contractor may make arrangements with the owner for the temporary relocation and restoration of utilities not designated to be relocated, or for additional work in excess of the work needed to relocate utilities designated for relocation at no additional cost to the Government.

1.2.3 Utilities Not Shown

If the Contractor encounters, within the construction limits of the entire project, utilities not shown on the plans and not visible as of the date of this contract and if such utilities will interfere with construction operations, he shall immediately notify the Contracting Officer in writing to enable a determination by the Contracting Officer as to the necessity for removal or relocation. If such utilities are left in place, removed or relocated, as directed by the Contracting Officer, the Contractor shall be entitled to an equitable adjustment for any additional work or delay.

1.2.4 Coordination

The Contractor shall consult and cooperate with the owner of utilities that are to be relocated or removed by others to establish a mutual performance schedule and to enable coordination of such work with the construction work. These consultations shall be held as soon as possible after award of the contract or sufficiently in advance of anticipated interference with construction operations to provide required time for the removal or relocation of affected utilities.

The Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating their activities with other contractors performing work in the area. This shall include, but is not limited to, coordination with contractor for the Women's Prison dike project.

1.2.5 Notices

1.2.5.1 Utilities to be Relocated or Protected

On each relocation, notification shall include dates on which the Contractor plans excavation, by-pass work, removal work and/or installation work, as applicable. The Contractor shall also notify the following representatives of utility owners not less than 30 days, unless otherwise specified, prior to start of work in the vicinity of their
