Prior to beginning of the demolition and removal works and in compliance with the above described laws, the Contractor is responsible for the installation of the necessary scaffolding and for its maintenance during all the time period needed to complete the work. The work includes demolition and removal of all construction indicated or specified. Do not begin demolition until authorization is received from the DPW. All materials resulting from demolition work, except as indicated or specified otherwise, shall become the property of the Contractor and shall remove from the limits of the
Government property. Remove rubbish and debris from the station daily, unless otherwise directed; do not allow accumulations inside or outside the buildings. Store materials that cannot be removed daily in areas designated by the DPW. Existing work which is to remain in place or to be reused, shall be protected using temporary covers, shoring, bracing, and supports. Items which are to remain and which are damaged during performance of the work shall be repaired to their original condition or replace with new at the expense of the Contractor. Do not overload structural elements. Provide new supports and reinforcement for existing construction if weakened by demolition or removal work. Where removal of existing roofing is necessary to accomplish work, have materials and workmen ready to provide adequate and approved temporary covering of exposed areas. Do not leave any uncovered roof portion unprotected.
Temporary coverings shall be securely fastened to prevent displacement and insure positive attachment in case of strong winds or heavy downpour of rain. Sawcut masonry so as to prevent damage to surfaces to remain. Do not remove masonry work by pounding with sledge hammer.
Wherever existing surfaces to remain are damaged by the Contractor during the performance of the work, including openings, plaster work, demolition of raised floor, fixtures, and unfinished areas resulting from the removal of materials or equipment, the Contractor shall repair, patch, and finish such surfaces to match finish of adjacent undamaged surfaces. Waste material shall not be thrown down, but rather, it shall be conveyed or guided downward, after wetting it to prevent raising dust. During demolition or removal work, the Contractor shall adopt every measure suitable to avoid deterioration of the items which may be reinstalled, or which, in the opinion of the COR, may be used at a later date. The contractor shall provide the COR with a certification of the performed disposal.
A qualified engineer shall subsequently test the cleaned tanks (gas free), and the certification test shall be delivered to the COR.
All expenses for cleaning, taking in delivery, analyses and for the final tests shall be at contractor’s expense and included in the price offer at the bidding. The contractor shall transport reclaimed tanks to the DRMO, building 5138 Supply & Maintenance Area, and unloaded where indicated.

All earthy material in excess or unsuitable for backfilling shall be delivered to the location indicated by the COR and within 20 km from work site. All costs for public dump of ordinary and/or special waste material shall be
Contractor charge. This does not apply to debris and rubble of all types, from which excavation material shall be rid of; these shall be disposed of at a dump, as prescribed at paragraph 1a-02. In case excavation is performed in presence of water and water level is below 20 cm height, the contractor shall remove water at his expense using the means he deems suitable. If water reaches higher levels, removal shall still be at contractor's expense only if the possible presence of groundwater is indicated on the drawings or in these specifications, and only to the extent indicated. In addition, the contractor shall prevent the access of water deriving from outside to the excavation site: in case water accumulates in excavated area, removal will be at contractor's expense. Struts and shoring shall be placed as necessary for the protection of the work and for the safety of personnel. Adequate precautions shall be taken for the protection of existing underground pipelines or electrical cables. Before any excavation is started, plans showing the approximate location of underground utility lines shall be furnished to the Contractor, upon his request. The area of excavation shall be delimited by trestles, gangplanks, and warning signs visible during night and day, to prevent injuries to persons, as prescribed by the ISPESL standards.
b. Trenches. Trenches shall be of the necessary width for the proper laying of the pipes and electric cables, and the banks shall be as nearly vertical as practicable. The bottom shall be accurately graded so as to provide bearing for the pipe on firm soil. The clear space between the pipe and the trenches wall shall not exceed 6" (15 cm.) on either side of the pipe. Further excavation will be required for housing and sealing of pipe joints. In proximity of buildings, existing underground utility lines, and wherever specifically requested in other sections of these specifications or on drawing notes, trenches shall be excavated manually.
c. Excavation for Foundation and Appurtenances. Excavation for manholes and similar structures shall be of sufficient dimensions as to leave a 12 inches (30 cm.) free space between their outer surfaces and the embankment or timber which may be used to hold the banks.
3b-02 BACKFILLING. Trenches shall not be backfilled until foundation, pipes or cables have been inspected and approved. Where, in the opinion of the COR, damage is likely to result from withdrawing of shoring, the latter shall be left in place.
a. Trenches on carrigeable roads: The pipes will be laid on a bed of dry sand of the thickness of 10-15 cm, one will furthermore provide for a backfilling and covering of the pipes for a minimum thickness of 10-15 cm with the same sand (0.8-2 mm).
As an alternative, when specifically required by the drawings, the bed and the backfilling shall be realized with lean concrete Rck 15 N/mmq.
When required the sand layer (or concrete) shall be covered with a layer of lean concrete, Rck 15
N/mmq, of the thickness of 10 cm. The quality, the characteristics and thickness of the backfilling materials are…
