Westport Island Fall 2017: Mow all fields to be planted. Plant RPM container trees on a
30’X30’ foot staggered spacing. Evenly distribute species as much as possible. Ensure proper planting depth, do not plant below root collar. Install tree wrap during planting process.
Remove all tree containers from site.
Dardenne Island Fall 2017: Use Fecon wood shredder to clear old field sites for planting (A, H and I). Thoroughly disk sites to expose bare soil for good seed contact. Broadcast seed with
Virginia wild rye (40 lbs/acre). Ideally this should be done in early September, (See task order for seed quantity) Once seed is broadcast, harrow seed into soil to make good contact.
Plant RPM container tree stock at a staggered 30’ X 30’ spacing within prepared field. Evenly distribute species as much as possible. Ensure proper planting depth, do not plant below root collar. Install tree wrap during planting process. Install tree wrap during planting process.
Remove all tree containers from site.
Dardenne Island Field B Fall 2017: Interplant RPM container stock in centerline between existing tree rows. Space trees 30’ apart within rows.
Dardenne Island Field C 2017: Release crop trees by chainsaw thinning around each identified crop tree. Crop tree spacing should be based on 20’x20’ foot spacing. Crop trees are selected based on species preference, and on total height compared to the regeneration canopy, largest crown, straightest stem, and absence of disease or other defects. Hardmast species such as
Oak take preference over all other species. Cottonwood species are second in preference, followed by green ash and silver maple. Cut all stems that have crowns within 1 ft. of the crown of the crop tree or overtopping the crop tree. Grapevines attached to crop trees will be cut.
Maintenance Westport and Dardenne 2018: Follow‐up March/April 2018 with herbicide application around planted trees. Using a Glyphosate/Oust XP mixture. 1 ½ percent solution of
Glyphosate with ¾ oz per acre of Oust XP pre‐emergent herbicide. Apply the herbicide within a
2 foot radius around planted trees directly. Take care in avoiding chemical contact with tree stem.
Equipment Transport (Mobilization/Demobilization): Transport of Light Weight Equipment with Attachments, mowing equipment, disking/harrowing/cultipacking equipment, ATV/UTV, and seed broadcaster to planting listed in this task order will be required to perform work.
Price for mobilization and demobilization will be negotiated with contractor. Mobilization will be from the Rivers Project Office to the work site at Dardenne Island. Contractor will then calculate mobilization cost from Dardenne Island site to Wesport Island. Demobilization will be from the work site at Westport Island back to the Rivers Project Office. Rivers Project Office address is 301 Riverlands Way, West Alton, MO 63386.
Marine Transport:
Marine Transport will be needed to transport large mechanical equipment to islands listed in task order. Westport Island , river mile 256 and Dardenne Island, river mile 228.
Price for mobilization and demobilization will be negotiated with contractor. Daily rate will reflect line item unit price, reflecting contract option year.
