RESPONSES TO RFIS
Responses to Request For Information W912P820B0063
1. Are the items outlined in the schedule of prices, the only required in-scope pricing needed?
No, the bid schedule is meant as a guide for cost comparison sake, but your entire price estimate should be included.
2. Do you want new couplings supplied?
Yes, the four (4) torsional couplings connecting the gearbox to the cardan shaft require replacement and two
(2) spare torsional couplings supplied.
3. Do you want new enclosing tubes?
It is not intended to provide new enclosing tubes but that will be determined once the pump is disassembled during the shop inspection.
4. Do you want new RTD’s?
It is not intended to provide new RTD’s but that will be determined once the pump is disassembled during the shop inspection. Additionally, it could get determined during the Pump Protection Panel troubleshooting as well.
5. Do you need new hardware, as part of the repair of each pump?
It is not intended to provide new hardware beyond that described in the scope of work, but that may change after the shop inspection.
6. Do you need new bearing heat sensors?
Yes, new bearing heat sensors are listed in paragraph 2.3.4.c
7. Do we need to remove the old pumping sole plate/grout? Do we need to reinstall and re-grout a new sole plate?
Yes, the sole plate and grout will require removal in order to remove the pump column. As part of the contract work a new speed reducer pedestal is required and the sole plate is a part of the pedestal. Upon re-installation and alignment, the new speed reducer pedestal with the sole plate will need to grouted in place according to paragraph 2.3.6.
8. Do you want a new cardan shaft?
It is not intended to provide a new cardan shaft as part of this contract but that could change after the shop inspection. However, a refurbishment is the more likely outcome.
9. Is any work required to the diesel engine sole plate and grouting?
Yes, there will be diesel engine sole plate re-grouting per paragraph 2.3.6 in order to achieve the proper alignment between the pump column, speed reducer (gearbox), and diesel engine (driver).
10. Is a bid bond required, if so, how much?
Bonding is required in accordance with the requirements of the Solicitation. (Review Solicitation requirments)
11. Is a crane available over the pump, gearbox and diesel engine for removal/installation? Or is the vendor required to supply a crane?
There is an overhead crane inside the pump station that can get utilized in diesel engine adjustments, but the vendor is required to supply a crane for the removal of the speed reducers and pump columns.
12. Please elaborate on the shop testing required for the pump
W912P820B0063
The new solid stainless-steel pump shafts and the existing pump impeller shall get laid out horizontally in an arrangement that allows the pump shaft and impeller to rotate freely. The assembly shall be checked at different intervals to verify alignment tolerances are met and that the assembly is balanced. Any unbalance or tolerance not met shall be corrected by the Contractor. All findings shall be submitted in a written report.
13. Elaborate on 1) Electrical work required 2) Pump monitoring and controls work required?
The electrical work required is providing power supply to the auxiliary heat exchangers for the speed reducers with disconnect switches. The Pump Protection Panel electrical work is troubleshooting the existing system to see if there are any failed components in the system and to recalibrate the system in order to prevent premature shutdowns as has been previously reported. Initial assessment of the system points to a calibration error or an error in the shutdown setpoints.
14. Are new Shaft Sleeves, O-rings, Keys, Split Rings, Thrust Collars required?
The new solid stainless-steel pump shafts, auxiliary components, and any typical wear parts (gaskets, seals, wear rings and sleeves) are required as part of the refurbishment of the pump columns.
