The Trident can be field programmed to accept process voltage (0-5V, 1-5V, etc) and current (4-20 mA) inputs, 100 Ohm RTDs, and the four most common thermocouples. It is housed in a shallow-depth, 1/8 DIN enclosure that features a NEMA 4X front panel and convenient mounting hardware. There are two power options for the Trident: 85 to 265 VAC or 12-36 VDC and it can provide 24 VDC to power the transmitter if needed.

Programming and setup can be performed with the four front panel pushbuttons, free MeterView software, or using the Copy function.

tWO DIsPLaY sIZes The display height on the standard Trident meter is 0.56" (14.2 mm) and on the Trident X2 the display height is an astounding 1.2" (30.5 mm). The Trident X2 can be read easily from distances of up to 30 feet! Both meters are available with all Trident features.

The intensity of the display on both versions of the Trident can be adjusted to compensate for various lighting conditions, including direct sunlight.

OVerVIeW trident series Process & temperature 1/8 DIN Panel Meters serial Communication adapters & Converters A wide variety of serial communication adapters and converters are available for the Trident meter. A serial adapter and Precision Digital’s free MeterView software allows the Trident to be programmed from a computer and to connect to a PC for data acquisition.

Adapters are available for USB, RS-232, and RS-485 communications. Converters are available for isolated and non-isolated RS-232 to RS-422/485 and USB to

RS-422/485.

Programming From a PC with MeterView®

Precision Digital’s free MeterView® software allows all PD765 Trident setup parameters to be programmed from a PC and to save the configuration settings to a file for reporting or programming other meters. And since the serial adapter is an external device, one serial adapter can program an infinite number of meters!

Meter Copy The Copy function is used to copy (or clone) all the settings from one Trident meter to other Trident meters in less than 10 sec-onds. The Copy function is a standard fea-ture on all meters. The Copy feature does not require a serial communication adapter, it only requires the optional cable assembly (PDA7420), see the ordering information for complete details.

Modbus rtu Use the Trident’s Modbus RTU communications to connect the Trident to a PLC, SCADA system or other digital device. It is a standard feature on all Trident models.

easY setuP aND PrOGraMMING The Trident is easily setup and programmed using the simple four-button programming method. The meter can also be programmed using a PC and Precision Digital’s free MeterView software or “cloned” with the Copy function. There is only one switch on the entire meter, no jumpers, and no need to ever open the case.

Programming with Four Front Panel Buttons The Trident’s four front panel buttons keep the user in control of the programming process. To see how simple it is to program the Trident, check out the Virtual Meter at www.predig.com.

Data aCQuIsItION Digital panel meters make a great front end to a PC-based data acquisition system. They are easy to set up, can be used for a wide range of inputs, will power the transmitter, and best of all provide a local display of the process. Precision Digital has the perfect package with its Trident Digital Panel Meters, a wide selection of serial adapters and converters and free MeterView software. Data is displayed on the PC and written to a file that could then be imported into a spreadsheet or other application.

PrOCess & teMPerature INPuts The Trident is factory calibrated to accept 4-20 mA, ±10 VDC, type J, K, T, or E thermocouples and 100 Ω platinum RTDs.

Process inputs can be scaled with or without applying an input for virtually any engineering units. Temperature inputs can be programmed to display in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius and the type K thermocouple can display up to 2300 °F.

Current & Voltage Inputs Setting up the meter to accept a current or voltage input could not be easier. All setup is performed with the front panel buttons and there are no switches or jumpers to deal with.

Current Overload Protection To protect the instrument from unexpected current overload, the current input circuit contains a resettable fuse. The fuse limits the current to a safe level when it detects a fault condition, and automatically resets itself when the fault condition is removed.

thermocouple & rtD inputs Setting up the Trident to accept a thermo-couple or RTD input is simply a matter of setting a switch at the rear of the case and selecting the input type from the menu.

The meter accepts J, K, T, or E type ther-mocouples as well as two, three, or four-wire 100 Ω platinum RTDs.

NeMa 4 & 4X eNCLOsures Thermoplastic and stainless steel NEMA 4X, and painted steel NEMA 4 enclosures for up to 10 Trident meters are available.

Tip-sensitive RTDs & Thermocouples

Overview The probe sensing tip is constructed of copper alloy which is twenty times more conductive than stainless steel. The sensors react more quickly to changes and indicate tip temperature instead of stem temperature. The result is better accuracy in thermowells, bearings, and other installations. Minco recom-mends 0.250" diameter probes for use in thermowells.

• Copper alloy tip for fast response

• Accurate sensing to 260°C (500°F)

• Non-armor models can be user-shortened

Specifications Temperature range:

Thermocouple: -184 to 260°C (-300 to 500°F).

RTD: -50 to 260°C (-58 to 500°F).

Case:

Stainless steel with copper alloy tip.

Minimum case length:

Thermocouple: 2.5" (63.5 mm).

RTD: • Single element probes: 2.8" (71.1 mm).

• Dual element probes: 4.0" (101.6 mm).

Maximum case length:

48" (1220 mm), longer on special order.

Leads:

Thermocouple: Solid thermocouple wire, AWG 20 (except AWG 24 on model TC355). Specify PTFE insulation, stainless steel overbraid, or stainless steel armor.

RTD: 2, 3, or 4 leadwires, stranded copper with PTFE insulation. AWG 22, except 0.188" diameter dual probes AWG 24. For 2-lead RTDs add 0.03 Ω per foot (0.05 Ω per foot for 0.188" diameter dual probes) of combined case and lead length to element tolerance. Copper (CA, CC) models must have 3 leads.

Time constant:

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Application: Application by conventional or airless spray is recommended for proper film build and best results. Brush application is acceptable for touch up.

Roller application may require special care to prevent bubbling and may require more than one coat to attain proper film thickness. Apply at 10 - 12 mils wet film thickness (depending on amount of thinner added) to achieve 8.0 mils dry film thickness.

NOTE: When applying over Inorganic Zinc Primers or porous concrete it may be desirable to apply a thinned “mist coat” and allow tiny bubbles to form. Follow with a full wet coat after bubbles disappear.

Recoat Information: If two coats of Mo-TarTM C-200 are required to achieve the necessary film thickness, the interval between coats should be as short as possible.

For adequate intercoat adhesion, it is important that the second coat be applied as soon as possible after the first coat is firm. If the first coat has cured more than 24 hours, the surface must be abraded by low pressure brush blasting to provide an adequate mechanical bond for recoating.

Equipment: Conventional spray - For pressure feed, use DeVilbiss MBC gun with E tip and needle and 30 air cap or equivalent at 50-90 psi atomizing pressure and 10-35 psi fluid (pot) pressure, 3/8" ID material hose, double regulated pressure tank with oil and moisture separator. Airless Spray - Minimum of 30:1 ratio pump, .017"-.027" orifice tip, 3/8" ID Teflon material hose.

NOTE: During lunch, breaks or any period of work stoppage, material should be removed from hoses and equipment. Release pressure from equipment and flush hoses and equipment with the proper thinner. Do not repressurize equipment until ready to resume work.

Cleanup: Clean all equipment immediately after use with MoPoxYTM Brushing Thinner 75-35 or MEK.

Completely flush all spray equipment with either of these solvents. Occasional flushing of spray equipment during the course of the working day helps prevent buildup and possible clogging.

Safety: Safe storage, handling and use dictate that adequate health and safety precautions be observed with this product and any recommended thinners. User is specifically directed to consult the current Material Safety Data Sheet for this product as well as precautions contained on product labeling.

Notice: The technical data contained herein are true and accurate to the best of our knowledge. All products are offered and sold subject to Mobi le Paint Manufacturing Company’s Standard Conditions of Sale.

Published technical data and instructions are subject to change without prior notice.

Consult your Mobile Paint Representative for the protective coating system best suited for your requirements.

Limitations: Apply in good weather when air and surface temperatures are above 40oF and surface temperature is at least 5oF above the dew point. For optimum application properties, material should be between 70 to 100oF prior to mixing and application.

Maintain unmixed material in closed containers in protected storage at 40 - 100oF.

Surface Preparation: Good surface preparation is essential to a satisfactory coating system. Surfaces to be coated should be clean and dry. Remove all oil, grease, mildew or other contamination by solvent or detergent cleaning or other effective means.

New or Unfinished Surfaces - Steel - For application to abrasive blasted steel surfaces only. “Commercial Blast Cleaning” (SSPC-SP6) is recommended as minimum for less critical service. For best performance in areas of high moisture, condensation, splash, spillage, etc., surface preparation should be “Near White Blast Cleaning” (SSPC-SP10). Proper blast media and blasting equipment shall be used to produce an average profile depth of 2.5 mils minimum. Do not reuse abrasive media. Remove blasting dust and grit from surfaces before painting. Blasted surfaces should be coated within 8 hours after blasting or before rusting or other contamination of the surface occurs.

Concrete - Must be clean, dry, properly cured and free from all surface contaminants. “Brush off Blast” (SSPC- SP7) to provide an etched surface and to remove contaminants and laitance. Remove dust before coating.

A prime coat of Mo-TarTM C-200 will penetrate concrete and is highly recommended to provide a good base coat prior to application of Mo-TarTM C-200. When applying as a prime coat, thin material up to 20% by volume (25 ounces per gallon).

Previously Finished Surfaces - This coating is for application directly to abrasive blasted ferrous metal or concrete surfaces only. Completely remove all other previous finishes as under “New or Unfinished Surfaces” above.

Mixing: This is a two component coating supplied in two containers as a unit. Always mix a complete unit in the proportions supplied. (1) Mix the contents of Component A thoroughly with a power agitator. (2) Combine the entire contents of Component A and Component B and mix thoroughly with a power agitator. Allow an induction time of 15 minutes at 77oF and remix before application.

At lower temperatures a longer induction time is required.
