Hard packed sand, shale, silt, clay, shell, logs, stumps, snags, debris, and other obstructions, including crab traps, may be encountered. Bidders are expected to examine the site of the work and, after investigation, decide for themselves the character of the materials.

The Contractor shall note the following dredging jobs previously performed.

Virgin material may be encountered above or below the channel dimensions listed above.

NOTE: During the previous dredging contract, abandoned crap traps were encountered in the vicinity of Mile 10.0 both at the surface of dredge cut and buried in dredge cut.

Although the channel footprint has been dredged previously, crab traps may still be present. The Contractor shall take necessary precautions that he/she deems necessary in order to prevent damage to the dredge pump and reduce down time. Crab traps and all other non-natural debris encountered during dredging shall be disposed of by removal from the site. The costs of removal shall be included in the applicable unit price for dredging. Bidders shall take into consideration the possible presence of crab traps when preparing their bid and should consider making a Pre-Bid Site Visit, as stated in Section 01100, paragraph PRE-BID SITE VISIT.”
