SUMMARY OF CHANGES

NO OTHER QUESTIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER POSTING OF THIS AMENDMENT.

Chickamauga Lock, Muscle Shoals Site Visit 3 Sep 09 - Q&As Ref: Solicitation # W912P5-09-B-0020 Chickamauga Prefabricated Bridges

Q1. Is there flexibility on the 6-month delivery date for the maintenance bridges?

A1. Funding for this fabrication is dependent on American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funding and is intended for early execution. We do not plan to extend the 6-month schedule for completion.

Q2. Can bridge components be assembled and stored at other sites?

A2. Bridges components should be shipped to the Muscle Shoals storage site and assembled for inventory by the government and release of the fabricator.

Questions submitted by email after the Muscle Shoals site visit.

Q3. Note 3 on Sheet 68W506-1 indicates that the bridges are to be designed for HS-20-44 loading or the loads generated by a Grove RT760 crane, whichever is greater. Is the Grove crane to be driving across the bridge only or is it expected to operate upon the bridge. For either condition, we need the loads generated by this crane.

A3. The Grove crane will not be operated upon the bridge. Axle loads can be obtained for the crane on the website: www.manitowoccranes.com

Q4. Are there any drawings of the existing bridges and supporting abutments that can be used for development of the design of the new bridges?

A4. No.

Q5. Is there a maximum outside width for the structure?

A5. No.

Q6. On Sheet 68W506-2, Note 3 discusses using removable shim plates in order to maintain alignment with the Hazmat Platform. Is it anticipated that there will be vertical movement from either the bridge or the Hazmat Platform? How much adjustment in ¼" increments should be provided?

A6. The contractor shall provide for up to 2-inches of vertical adjustment.

Q7. Is there a maximum height above deck on the truss top chord for the 110 foot long bridge?

A7. No.

Q8. What value for concrete compressive strength is to be used for bearing design at the abutments (designed by others)?

W912P5-09-B-0020

A8. Contractor should use 3000 psi concrete strength for design.

Q9. LBYD is assuming that we will not be needed for any site visits. Is this assumption correct?

A9. A site visit is not required. A site visit will be accommodated if requested by contractor.

Q10. Are any utilities, piping, etc. to be supported from the bridges?

A10. No.

Q11. We are beginning our look at the bridge and want to verify a direction concerning the members.

The top chord will be a wide flange with its web oriented horizontally. The member would be rolled on a radius about its weak axis.

The bottom chord will be a 24" deep maximum section with its web oriented vertically. he top of the bottom chord will be at top of deck.

A11. The proposed design presented above sounds reasonable. Please note that the lowest elevation of the bottom of the bridge can be no lower than El. 691.0.

Q12. We are assuming that a pre-fabricated guardrail will be attached to the face of the web members. Please verify this is correct.

A12. The type of guardrail is at the discretion of the contractor, subject to approval of the contracting officer.
