SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION 00800 - SPECIAL CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS

The following have been modified:

SPECIAL CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS

1. QUESTION- Specification section 16073.1.1.A –“The risers shall extend a minimum of 16” above the top of the roof.” Per UL standards we cannot allow any cable risers 9” above the roof deck. Please advise if the term risers here should be air terminals ( UL/NFPA standards are a minimum of 10” for air terminals )

1. ANSWER- This should be “air terminals”.

2. QUESTION- Specification section 16073.1.1.D – “ The installation shall conform with OSHA requirements for impalement protection “.Do the air terminals need to conform with CAL-OSHA requirements or are blunt /safety tipped air terminals approved?

2. ANSWER- Blunt/safety tip terminals are acceptable.

3. QUESTION- Specification section 16073.1.1.C –“ The system shall bear the Master Label”. In order to receive the UL Master Label certificate, the entire structure, including the new addition, is required to have LP system components afforded it. Does this meet with approval ?

3. ANSWER- Lightning system shall protect the entire building both old and new.

4. QUESTION- Specification section 16073.2.1.A – we may not be able to use copper components on areas of this structure. In order to conform with LP standards requirements, we will utilize system materials that are compatible with roofing materials being utilized in order to obtain the proper certification for this project. Does this meet with approval ?

4. ANSWER- Aluminum or copper material is acceptable

5. QUESTION- Specification section 16073.2.1.C –“ All connections shall be with the Burndy hyground system.”

i. Are these connections for below grade only.

i. ANSWER- Yes

ii. Are exothermic weld connections allowed as an alternate to the Burndy hyground series?

ii. ANSWER- Use of exothermic weld connections is acceptable.

6. QUESTION- Specification section 16073.3.1.A –“ All risers shall be concealed within the building construction.” The majority of the lightning protection installation for this project will be on an existing structure.

Please advise if down lead cables concealed in conduit ( pvc sch 80 ) on the exterior would meet approval?

6. ANSWER- All risers in the new building shall be concealed with the new walls. All risers in the existing building shall be concealed on the inside of the building where practical and turn out to exterior of building as close to grade as possible. Exposed conduit in the highbay area is acceptable. For all routing inside the existing building coordinate with the contracting officer.

7. QUESTION- Specification section 16073.3.1.B – “Looped from the air terminal risers extend a #4/0 awg copper conductor underground to the main electrical power service grounding triad and connect thereto”.

i. We assume that this comment is for the common grounding between a LP down lead cable to the electrical service ground, correct? UL prefers, for certification requirements, that a master ground bus be furnished and all connections of Lp system and other incoming service utilities attach to the bus as a common ground point.

i. ANSWER- Contractor shall provide ground bus as necessary to achieve the “Master Label” certification.

This shall also include any conduit and conductor routing necessary to achieve this label.
