About this file

This document is a series of questions and answers for Crane Services for the Engineer Research and Development Center Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (ERDC GSL), solicitation number W912HZ26Q7574. The project involves crane services for lifting a 90,000 lb. structure during testing at a military site near Fort Polk, Louisiana. Key details include: the crane will need to move between lifts along an 80-foot testbed, with each test shifting approximately 20 feet, and will be staged in a designated safe area away from explosive testing zones. The maximum lift radius will be 45 feet from the crane's center pin, and only a single crane crew will be needed across multiple days. The staging area is located at the Alligator Lake Staging Area, 541 North Fort Rd in Leesville, LA, with the actual test site approximately 3 miles from the parking lot, and no military facility entry or security requirements are necessary.

Crane Services for ERDC GSL

W912HZ26Q7574

1. Could you give me the travel distance from Point A to Point B when the structures are to be transported?

The travel path will typically be lifting from the rear of the crane and placing the structure off to one side of the crane. The max reach distance will not exceed 45 ft from the center pin of the crane and will only need to swing wide enough to clear the outriggers.

2. Can we please have Diagram of Item being lifted with measurements Will the Crane be in one place, or will it have to be moved once on site?

Please see the attached photo of the 90,000 lb. object to be lifted. The crane will have to move between each lift for testing and each subsequent lift will be from a slightly different location to maintain minimal reach requirements.

3. Will the crane remain in one position for the required lifts, or will it need to be moved for several setups across the test site? Additionally, because the place of performance will serve as an active explosives range, please confirm whether the crane may safely remain staged on site between lift days, or if it must be relocated outside the test area after each workday to avoid exposure to live-fire or explosive testing.

We will be placing the structure along an 80’ long testbed (Each test will shift approximately

20’ further down the testbed from the previous test). The only requirement that may be necessary would be during the initial setup to move the structure in range of the testbed, and this would require no more than two setups. The crane can be staged on site in a designated are that will remain safe from any explosive testing that might take place during those dates.

4. The PWS mentions existing lifting eyes on the structures and a 45-ft lift radius. Could you please provide any available drawings, dimensions, or rigging details (e.g., weight distribution, lifting-eye locations, or center of gravity) to allow our crane vendor to prepare an accurate and safe lift plan?

Please reference the attached photo of the structure being lifted during a previous testing effort.

5. Do you have Drawings or Diagrams of the items being lifted so that I can get quotes for the

Rigging?

Please reference the attached photo of the structure being lifted during a previous testing effort.

6. Are both the cranes required on different days?

There will not be a need for multiple cranes on a single day, so a single crew could support all need dates.

8. Can you provide a physical address for this location so I can get accurate mobilization fees?

We do not have a physical address to route directly, so the below address is for a large gravel parking lot outside the Ft. Polk trucking entrance. Please instruct the driver to contact one of our POCs to get an escort out to our test site which is approximately 3 miles from this parking lot. The crane will not enter the military facility, so no security requirements will be necessary.

9. Can you please confirm if we can park the crane that needs to be used for two days on site?

The crane can be staged on site in a designated are that will remain safe from any explosive testing that might take place during this timeframe.
