Questions and Answers:

1. How many acres need to be cleared and graded?

Answer: Looking at Sheet C-003 the minimum amount of clearing and grading needed is a quarter (0.25 acres) of an acre.

2. As far as I know, this area is currently in flood stage or near flood stage. The water table is quite high in the entire area, making this project possibly quite challenging and expensive to excavate and achieve the indicated level of subgrade compaction within the required time frame for completion. It is hard to guarantee meeting the indicated timelines for starting and completing the work as required once a contract is issued. When do you suggest the project to start so we won't face the above issue?

Answer: The proposed site sits a foot to two feet above the surrounding area. Normal dewatering technics may be utilized. The contract includes the number of days the contractor should expect adverse weather each month. This subject is covered in Section 01 11 00 General Requirements paragraph 1.6.11 Time Extension for Unusually Severe Weather.

3. We would like to clarify what type of granite stone to be used - # 5 or a Gabc base stone? Also would you like a price substituting FLBC limestone for the granite?”

Answer: Sheet C-002 Detail New Gravel Pad Section shows 8" graded crushed aggregate stone course (SCDOT Number 5 Stone) and states the stone shall be quarry granite based.

4. Is the contractor to move/relocate the existing stored materials that are in the way of performing the work?

Answer: Sheet C-001 Note 7 states Flood Fighting Material shall not be disturbed by the Contractor.

Sheet C-003 Note 2 states the contractor is to coordinate with the government to have flood fighting material relocated.

5. Is the excavated existing earth and stone base material to be hauled offsite or placed nearby as directed by the Corps? If the spoil material is to be placed nearby then where?

Answer: Specification Section 01 11 00 General paragraph 1.15 states trash, debris and other objectionable matter shall be disposed of off-site in an approved landfill.

6. Will the Corps provide non-potable water for construction? If not may we pump from the adjacent canal?

Answer: Specification Section 31 00 00 Earthwork paragraph 1.1 states payment will be full compensation for furnishing all material.

7. Please confirm access and work hours are from 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday?

Answer: Specification Section 01 11 00 General paragraph 1.14 states normal working hours are 0700 to 1630 (7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday.
