WRITTEN DESCRIPTION of WORKFLOW
27JUL2009 (Monday) Received notice to proceed. Began assembling site maps and specific instructions for survey crews.
28JUL2009 (Tuesday) Began field work with two survey crews. A kick-off meeting was conducted on site and the survey crews were briefed on the project specifics and copies of instructions, maps, etc. was provided. Each survey crew was assigned specific sites to survey. The project manager took each survey crew to their respective site and did a walk-thru to discuss site specific details. Each crew began field surveys by establishing horizontal and vertical control points. A wooden hub was set flush with the water level. This hub was used to determine the elevation basis. From the horizontal control points, the hub was located and the day, date, and time was recorded. The remaining site features were located by trigonometric survey methods including top of bank, toe of bank, fences, fire pits, edge of pavement, signs, storm drainage pipes, gravel areas used as camp sites, underwater shots, concrete boat ramps, buildings, rock outcrops, riprap areas, temporary bench marks, water hook-ups, electric hook-ups, etc. Utilizing a Trimble PRO-XR Pathfinder GPS unit (mapping grade), selected horizontal control points and other features were observed to obtain North Carolina Grid coordinates. Before leaving the site, several digital photographs were taken.
29JUL2009 (Wednesday) Field work continued by the first two survey crews. A third survey crew arrived and the project manager reviewed the instructions, maps, etc. and then escorted them to their respective sites for specific details to be surveyed.
30JUL2009 (Thursday) Field work continued by all three survey crews.
31JUL2009 (Friday) All field information collected was downloaded. Information included data collector files, digital photos, copies of field notes, PRO-XR Pathfinder GPS files, etc.
03AUG2009 (Monday) All three field crews returned to their assigned sites to continue field surveys. Office computations were begun. Processing of the PRO-XR Pathfinder GPS files was conducted to establish grid coordinates on the control points for each site. The water elevation was obtained for the hub at each site by corresponding the observation date and time with the John H. Kerr Reservoir website that publishes the elevation on a hourly
John H. Kerr Reservoir Erosion Control Sites 26AUG2009 Page 4 of 88 basis. The website address is http://epec.saw.usace.army.mil/roa05.htm. Data collector files were processed and ASCII files were created. Office computations began.
04AUG2009 (Tuesday) Field work continued. Office computations continued.
05AUG2009 (Wednesday) Field work was completed on all sites. Office computations continued.
06AUG2009 (Thursday) Office computations continued.
07AUG2009 (Friday) Office computations continued.
10AUG2009 thru 25AUG2009
Office computations continued. CADD mapping began until all sites complete . Survey report was created and completed. Metadata report was created and completed.
26AUG2009
CADD files and all required submittals were sent to client electronically via email.
FLOW CHART DIAGRAM
SURVEY CONTROL and TBM DESCRIPTIONS
The initial positions for each site were produced from mapping grade GPS observations utilizing a Trimble PRO-XR Pathfinder receiver with broadcast corrections from the U.S. Coast Guard beacon. Coordinates shown are "localized" coordinates holding the Trimble PRO-XR Pathfinder position on a single point and holding a second point for direction. Horizontal datum is North Carolina Grid coordinate system (NAD83) in U.S. Survey Feet. At least three (3) semi-permanent horizontal control points were established on each site.
Elevations at each site were obtained by observing the water surface and recording the day, date and time, then corresponding that reading to the "HW Gauge" data broadcast at website http://epec.saw.usace.army.mil/roa05.htm.
