how the 12x12’s will be utilized, ETA of needing product, is point loading a possible consideration on how this will be used, etc.? (A) Needed ASAP. We call these Crane Mats per what they are used for, Vender calls them timbers-Same purpose, “Correct term is Timbers” they sit on the deck of the barge and the crane sits on top of the crane mats/timbers and is secured to the barge as depicted in photo below, listed as composite timbers in the market research.
1. In the item number section you have listed “REPLACEMENT OF CRANE MATS FOR MANITOWOC” but in the description states “quantity thirty-five (35) composite timbers at dimensions 12” T x 12” W x 25’-4” L with general timber characteristics: black color, no embossing, and no wood grain.” Are you looking for Mats or timbers?? Timber is the correct term.
2. In the next section it says ”deliver quantity Sixty (60) timbers at dimensions 8” T x 12” W x 59” L with general timber characteristics: 100% OAK, rough sawn, full sawn, blocks are square edged and sound with minimal wane, precision end trimmed to 59” inches long +/- 1/8” inch.” What is the spec for the Oak? Is there a species and/or grade of Oak? Does it have to be oak? Can you use other hardwood?
Lastly, “the wood timbers shall be pressure treated” Traditionally oak is not treated because it is not pores enough, but if you require treatment I would need the type of treatment, retention and use to quote the proper treatment. (A) The market research has pricing for both 100% OAK and nominal-standard sawn, green, industrial grade hardwood timbers, pressure treated to refusal, 8” T x 12” W x 59” L, We must have combined the two types by mistake in the write up.
The Correct Type is (60) , industrial grade hardwood timbers, pressure treated to refusal at dimensions 8” T x 12” W x 59” L with general timber characteristics , rough sawn, full sawn, blocks are square edged and sound with minimal wane, precision end trimmed to 59” inches long +/- 1/8” inch.” These are used as ramps to move the crane on and off the barge, they are mounted into steel MDC designed, manufactured frames which are attached to sides of the barge.
The below photo for reference on the purpose and use of the 35 composite timbers 12” T x 12” W x 25’-4”L (Hard Wood Timbers depicted in photo)
