About this file
This notice provides details on two upcoming federal contract opportunities for construction projects in Florida. The first opportunity is for the Indian River Lagoon South Project to construct stormwater treatment areas consisting of cells totaling approximately 1,970 acres west and east of County Road 613, including perimeter levees, cell division levees, culverts and channels. The second opportunity is for the Everglades Agricultural Area A-2 Reservoir Project to construct approximately 7.2 miles of parallel open channels and a maintenance road for water management. Both projects will be conducted by the Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering District Jacksonville. Interested parties must confirm attendance for an industry day on January 25, 2021 and monitor Beta.SAM.gov for future updates. Project challenges include existing infrastructure constraints and coordination with other ongoing construction activities.

BUILDING STRONG®
Indian river lagoon - south project summary Large, multi-components project authorized in 2007 (648,000 acres watershed – 1000 sq. mi.)
New structural storage (163,000 ac-ft) – 4 large reservoirs and 3 stormwater treatment areas (RSTA) New non-structural storage (30,000 ac-ft) and large areas – 4 large natural storage, habitat, and water quality areas (90,000 ac) Floodplain restoration (3,100 ac), muck removal, habitat creation will restore and create new estuary habitat Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan Project (CERP) Goals and Benefits Re-establish a natural pattern of freshwater flows Improve water quality, estuarine habit Maintain existing flood protection Increase (agricultural) water supply (reduce dependency on Floridian Aquifer at C-23, C-24, and C-25 basins) Improve opportunities for environmental education, tourism, and recreation Strong stakeholder support including Martin County, St. Lucie County, South Florida Water Management District

OVERALL PROJECT STATUS – PHASE 1
(Existing)
Phase 1 show on map. The reason this was split into phases due to land acquisition and agreements.
All three reservoirs and STAs contribute to restoration not just by creating aquatic habitat where the STAs are but to capture, store, and treat local runoff from their adjacent basins. All three work together to contribute to the downstream restoration of the St. Lucie esturary and the Indian river Lagoon.. Failure to include the storage and features of all three reservoir/STA complexes does not meet the authorization of the project and the overall goals and objectives in included as part of the CERP program.
