Provide solid backing for each tie. Except where removable tie rods are used, ties shall not leave holes in the concrete surface less than 1/4 inch nor more than 1 inch deep and not more than 1 inch in diameter. Terminate the embedded portion of metal ties not less than 2 inches from any concrete surface exposed to water. Removable tie rods shall be not more than 1-1/2 inches in diameter. Plastic snap ties may be used in locations where the surface will not be exposed to view.
2.3.4 Form Release Agents
Form releasing agents shall be commercial formulations that will not bond with, stain or adversely affect concrete surfaces. Agents shall not impair subsequent treatment of concrete surfaces depending upon bond or adhesion and shall not impede the wetting of surfaces to be cured with water or curing compounds. Agents shall be compatible with the concrete stain *system specified in the Plans*. Where form liners are to be used, follow the recommendation of the form coating manufacturer. Submit manufacturer's recommendation on method and rate of application of form releasing agents.
2.4 FORM LINERS

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
3.1.1 Formwork
Comply with ACI 301 Section 2 with surface tolerances in accordance with
ACI 117.
3.1.2 Construction
Construct forms true to the structural design and required alignment. Make forms mortar tight, properly aligned, and adequately supported to produce concrete surfaces meeting the surface requirements and construction tolerances in accordance with Section 03 31 00 CAST-IN-PLACE STRUCTURAL CONCRETE and to achieve safe performance during construction, concrete placement, and form removal. Continuously monitor the alignment and stability of the forms during all phases to ensure the finished product will meet the required surface class and tolerances as specified. Failure of any supporting surface either due to surface texture, deflection or form collapse will be the responsibility of the Contractor, and to replace or correct unsatisfactory surfaces. When forms for continuous surfaces are placed in successive units, take care to fit the forms over the completed surface to obtain accurate alignment of the surface and to prevent mortar leaking. Forms are not to be reused if there is any evidence of surface defects which would impair the quality of the resulting concrete surface.
Clean all surfaces of used forms of mortar and any other foreign material before reuse. Clean all surfaces of forms and embedded materials of any mortar from previous concreting and of all other foreign material before concrete is placed in them. Design formwork to stand alone to support the loads from concrete placement. Additionally, non-integral support systems is prohibited for use to provide capacity to the formwork. If formwork slips during placement, abandon the placement, remove the recently placed new concrete, redesign formwork or adjust installation methods, and replace the concrete as specified.
SECTION 03 11 14 Page 6 AMEND. 0003
16 SEP 2019
3.1.3 Chamfering
Chamfer all exposed joints, edges, external corners, and vertical monolith joints by molding placed in the forms unless specifically indicated that chamfering is prohibited or as otherwise specified. Chamfered joints are prohibited where earth or rockfill is placed in contact with concrete surfaces.
3.1.4 Coating
Coat forms for exposed-to-view concrete with form oil or a form-release agent before the form or reinforcement is placed in final position. Use the coating as recommended in the manufacturer's instructions. Forms for unexposed surfaces may be wet with water in lieu of coating immediately before placing concrete, except that in cold weather with probable freezing temperatures, coating will be mandatory. Surplus coating on form surfaces and coating on reinforcing steel and construction joints to be removed before placing concrete.
3.2 FORM REMOVAL
Remove forms when approved by the Contracting Officer. Remove forms in a manner which will prevent injury to the concrete and ensure the complete safety of the structure. The minimum time required for concrete to reach a strength adequate for removal of formwork without risking the safety of workers or the quality of the concrete depends on a number of factors including, but not limited to, ambient temperature, concrete lift heights, type and amount of concrete admixture, and type and amount of cementitious material in the concrete. Consider all applicable factors and leave the forms in place until safe to remove them. In any case, forms are not to be removed less than 24 hours after placement of concrete, except as otherwise directed or specifically authorized. When conditions are such as to justify the requirement, forms to remain in place for a longer period.
3.3 INSPECTION
Forms and embedded items will be inspected in sufficient time prior to each concrete placement in order to certify to the Contracting Officer that they are ready to receive concrete. The results of each inspection to be reported in writing. Submit field inspection reports for concrete forms and embedded items.
