TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
LOWER MONUMENTAL LOCK AND DAM
POWERHOUSE ENTRY DOORS
1.0 INTENT
The following specifications pertain to the purchase of two replacement sliding entry doors and associated hardware for the powerhouse main entry and powerhouse erection bay at Lower Monumental Lock and Dam in Kahlotus, WA.
2.0 SCOPE
The successful offeror shall supply (2) two sliding automatic door entrances, complete with door operating mechanism, and associated hardware in accordance with the following specifications and attached drawings for the powerhouse. The doors and their associated hardware must comply with Engineer Code Practices. Supplied industrial products must conform to the design requirements that are based on the latest adopted edition of the United Facilities Criteria (UFC), NFPA 80, NFPA 101.
3.0 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
3.1 The powerhouse entry doors shall have the following salient characteristics:
1) Description: Sliding, Industrial Metal Door including frame and track assembly, door panel, door hardware and door operating mechanism.
2) Doors designed for mounting to interior of concrete wall structures. See included drawing for information only.
3) Tailrace Deck Door - Elevation 460:
a. Configuration: Single Slide – Left (Viewed from Exterior)
b. Rough Opening Width: 40.5 inches
c. Rough Opening Height: 86 inches
4) Intake Deck Door – Elevation 553:
a. Configuration: Single Slide – Right (Viewed from Exterior)
b. Rough Opening Width: 64 inches
c. Rough Opening Height: 86 inches
5) Door Sections:
a. Sections shall be at a minimum, nominal 2-1/8 inches thick
b. Fabricated with a welded internal frame
c. Sheeted on the interior and exterior, welded in place.
d. Insulate voids between internal door framing and door sheeting, full depth of cavity.
e. Insulation shall be rigid foam, R-value: R-5 minimum.
6) Track/frame:
a. Track shall be minimum 1/4 inch thick and furnished in one piece (as practical) with integral mounting brackets.
b. Vertical track support shall be furnished at each jamb.
c. Clearance pack-outs shall be integral to track, vertical track and vertical track supports, providing a nominal 2-inch clearance between door and wall mounting surface.
d. Provide factory located stop clip to stop door at open position.
7) Top Trolley Assembly:
a. Shall be one-piece and the full width of the door section.
b. A minimum of 3/4 inch vertical travel adjustment shall be available for leveling of the door panel.
c. Top guide roller to be sized appropriately to weight and size of door panel, but shall be 4-inch diameter, minimum, with roller bearings and grease fittings.
d. Roller to have non-corrosive treads machined to match track, providing both vertical load support and lateral load control from either side of door without binding.
8) Bottom Guide Roller Assembly:
a. To be non-corrosive and provide dual lateral load control of door and be concealed within bottom of door.
b. Roller-mount to be integral to vertical track supports and shall not require floor anchors.
c. Bottom guide roller to be non-corrosive and shall not require lubrication.
9) Handles:
a. Provide one (1) 12” bow handle.
b. Opposite side of door to have one (1) 6” x 8” recessed flush pull.
c. Handles to be factory located on door.
10) Weather Seals:
a. Seals at head, trail jamb, and sill to be nylon filament brush in a mill finish aluminum retainer.
b. Head seal to be factory located.
c. Trail jamb and sill seal to be field located.
d. Seal at stop jamb must be a compressible neoprene bulb seal in a compression retainer attached to the vertical track member at the stop jamb.
11) Provide adequate bracketry to allow securing of door to adjacent concrete structure using wedge-style concrete anchors.
12) Windows: Factory glazed with 1/4-inch tempered glass, standard nominal size(s): 24”x24” (both doors.)
13) Keyed Entry: Doors shall be compatible with and prepared for installation of Best brand CORMAX SFIC lock cores. Cores will be supplied and installed by the Government. Keyed entry functionality is a redundant system in case of power, opener or card reader failure.
14) Automatic motion-sensor-activated opening on interior side.
15) Electronic magnetic card-reader activation from exterior side (furnished and installed by Government.)
16) Automatic Operation: Electric 120 VAC. Power to be furnished and commissioned by Government.
17) Allow manual operation of door in the event of a power failure, per NFPA 101 7.2.1.9.1
3.2 MATERIALS
1) Exposed sheet metal of door panel to be formed of the following material type:
a. Steel: Commercial quality, low carbon steel of appropriate size and strength, welded and structurally bonded.
2) Industrial door internal structure to be structural tubes, plates, and formed shapes of the following material type:
a. Steel: commercial quality, low carbon steel of appropriate size and strength with welded construction.
3) Weather seals to be compressible rubber or brush, typically Neoprene and Nylon Brush Seal unless otherwise noted, and to be field replaceable.
4) The door frame must be manufactured with the same material type and finish as door panel.
Frame to include jambs and header jambs for field location and installation on structure. Jamb must be designed and fabricated with appropriately sized members as required for the loading.
5) Frame Mounting Hardware: Provide anchors, as required.
6) Operating Hardware: Provide hardware appropriate for the size and weight of the industrial sliding door. Hardware to be factory located on jambs and door panels, as practical. Latching hardware to be as indicated on drawings. Industrial doors to be factory prepared for applicable latching devices.
7) Placards: Factory mounted decal labels for product identification.
8) Finish: Apply the following paint system in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and instructions:
a. Powder Coat, Gray.
Fit and factory assemble items in largest practical sections, for shipment to site. Supply components required for anchorage of doors. Supply anchors and related components of same material and finish as required in these technical specifications, except where specifically noted otherwise.
4.0 PRE-AWARD SUBMITTALS
Descriptive materials (brochures, illustrations, drawings, data sheets, etc.) must be submitted, which will allow the Contracting Officer to determine, without discussion with the offeror, whether the products being offered meet all the required specifications. Submittals shall include copies of manufacturer’s catalog cut sheets, specification sheets, and warranty.
5.0 POST-AWARD SUBMITTALS
1) The successful offeror shall submit pre-fabrication design drawings for approval prior to starting the manufacturing.
2) The design drawings shall include all information required for the Government to review for approval prior to manufacturing, such as layout, profiles, and product components, including anchorage, hardware, and finishes. Include dimensional plans, applicable material specifications, elevations and sections detailing mounting and connections.
3) Consideration will be given to alternate designs that meet design intent with variations to specifications, with justification for any variations. Any considerations and allowable specification variations shall be at the discretion of the Government.
4) Design is to conform to the latest adopted edition of the United Facilities Criteria (UFC), NFPA 80, and NFPA 101. Reference appropriate regulatory publications where used in submittal.
5) The Government will review and provide comments or approval within two weeks from the date submitted.
6) Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
a) Preparation instructions and recommendations.
b) Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
7) Installation instructions
6.0 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS
1) Provide two (2) copies of Operation and Maintenance manuals to include warranty, methods for maintaining installed products, precautions against cleaning materials and methods detrimental to finishes and performance.
2) Provide all 2D & 3D CAD files in native format.
7.0 WARRANTY
All supplied components shall be covered by the manufacturer’s standard warranty on all parts, labor, and workmanship from factory defects. The warranty period shall be a minimum of one-year but longer warranty periods that are standard offerings from the manufacturer for specific components shall also apply.
8.0 SHIPMENT AND DELIVERY
All items shall be delivered FOB to Lower Monumental Lock and Dam within 20 weeks of contract award. The contractor shall be responsible for packing and shipping the components in a manner that will ensure undamaged and complete arrival at the Lower Monumental Lock and Dam. No shipments are allowed other than during Lower Monumental Lock and Dam business hours of Monday-Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST, excluding federal holidays.
