About this file

This is a quote item list template seeking quotes for submersible cable for McNary Lock & Dam's Extended Submersible Barrier Screen (ESBS). The requirement is for 2,000 linear feet of 4-conductor 14 AWG submersible cable to be delivered in two 1,000-foot spools.

The technical specifications require the cable to be insulated, shielded, and water-blocked, capable of underwater installation in all weather conditions (-20°F to 130°F). The cable must contain four 14 AWG stranded copper conductors (black, white, red, green), insulated for 600V with high-density polyethylene, wrapped in polyester tape, and coated with a polyurethane jacket of minimum 0.70 inches thickness. The cable diameter must not exceed 0.630 inches, weigh no more than 190 pounds per 1,000 feet, and have a minimum bend diameter of 14 inches or less. The Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering District Walla Walla is the requesting agency, with delivery required by October 8, 2024.

SUBMERSIBLE 4 CONDUCTOR 14 AWG CABLE. The cable shall be insulated, shielded, and contain water blocking. The cable must be capable of being installed underwater in all weather conditions and temperatures. It will be exposed to the environment 365 days per year and 5may be subjected to low temperatures of 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit and 130 degrees above zero Fahrenheit. It will be exposed to water, direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and wind. It must be able to withstand turbulent water conditions without deteriorating the cable.

The cable shall be delivered in TWO (2) 1000-foot spools.

The cable shall contain four 14 AWG (41 x #30) stranded copper conductors.

Conductors shall be insulated for 600V.

Insulation shall be high density polyethylene.

An outer polyurethane jacket shall cover the insulated conductors.

The conductors shall be color coded as black, white, red, and green.

The cable shall be wrapped with polyester tape.

The cable bundle shall be coated overall with a polyurethane jacket of thickness not less than 0.70 inches.

The diameter of the cable shall not exceed 0.630 inches.

The weight, in air, of the cable shall not exceed 190 pounds per 1000 feet.

The cable shall contain a non-wicking water blocking compound which is normally used in underwater environments and plastic rods between the conductors and the outer jacket.

Water blocking shall be used to fill all voids between conductors and outer jacket of cable and shall be chemically compatible with all other cable materials.

The water blocking shall not be injected through the outer jacket; it shall be applied during cable manufacture thereby preventing injection incisions in the jacket.

The cable shall have a minimum bend diameter of 14 inches or less.

The cable, and reel, shall be marked, in accordance with the National Electrical Code. The cable shall be durably marked on the surface at intervals not exceeding 24 inches with the maximum rated voltage, proper type letter (or letters) of cable, the manufacturer’s name, the AWG size or circular mil, number of conductors, and other special considerations for the cable (i.e. water blocking).
