Questions/Responses
September 9, 2017
1. On the prints the triangles representing drop locations, how many cables is at each triangle? Is it one for voice and one data?
Response: All ports will be patched to the patch panels as communication ports. There is not a differentiation between phone/network ports. There is a naming convention that is unique to the hospital network and shall be followed (see attached Patch Panel Numbering Scheme).
2. Are the walls sheetrock or some other material?
Response: The walls are sheetrock but the building is a historical site and the walls cannot be penetrated without discussion. The furniture is being acquired in order not to use the walls for installation. There is a power/data pole that will be used to deliver the cables to the furniture pathways from the ceilings already in place.
3. Do the "X"'s on the prints signify anything?
Response: We are not sure what the x’s are for however the triangles represent a general location of the drops.
4. Is the existing backbone that needs testing fiber and copper? How many fiber strands/ copper pairs?
Response: There is an existing fiber (4 strands)and 50 pair of copper in the building. When the copper is moved from the current location to the new communication room it needs to be verified that is still has a dial tone. The fiber is the Government’s responsibility to ensure operation.
5. How many existing cables are there?
Response: There are a few that were done incorrectly and were not counted in this requirement. They will not reach to the new locations and possible need to be retracted in order to not confuse the install.
6. On the cables going into cubicles, will regular wall faceplates work or do they require furniture faceplate? If furniture faceplates are required please provide model number and manufacture of cubicles.
Response: The cubicles will have places for the electrical and data ports. We do not know of the type of furniture at this time but will have an answer possibly before the walkthrough. It will require some sort of termination into a RJ-45 jack and possibly fitted into a wall plate.
7. Where wall cable drops are required is it necessary to run down the wall in EMT conduit or just inside the wall?
Response: There are EMT already in place for areas requiring wall drops.
8. In the telecommunications room #114, is there fiber to be terminated? If so what kind and how many strands?
Response: The existing 4 strands will need to be connected to the fiber optic patch panel being installed as part of this contract. SC connector and SC FOP required.
9. On the new 100 pair cable, how far from the new TR to the existing termination point? Will any of the run be outdoors? If so would you like surge protector packs installed?
Response: The new 100 pair is being installed by another contract and they will land it in room 114. This contract will require them to patch it from the PED to the new racks/patch panels.(if it is in place by that time) All of it will be for indoor usage and no surge protectors. That is on the other contractor.
10. I did not see any wage determination tables to use for the labor I will use to bid this work, can you please supply them?
Response: Wage Determination 15-5229 (Rev 3) dated 08/08/2017 included in this Amendment 0002.
11. I was not clear if this is a bid that is a total set aside for small businesses or if it is full and open competition as I see that both are discussed can you please clarify? I did not see the usual construction FAR clauses, is this a commercial service solicitation?
Response: This requirement is a Total Small Business Set-Aside and this is a commercial service solicitation.
