In lieu of glass, all framed artwork shall receive a UV filtering hard coat acrylic sheeting protection, Cyro Acrylite FF or equal, at a minimum 1/8” thickness.
TYPICAL FRAME + MAT
CANVAS
Canvas art should receive four coats of protective finish
HARDWARE
Provide 4‐point security mounting hardware, United Manufacturers or equal, with bottom locking T bolts for secure installation. If artwork is over 20 lbs, use appropriate heavy duty hardware
MOUNTING
Mount artwork approximately 53” to 63” from the floor to the bottom of the top one‐third of the picture Artwork placement should be uniform Distance between the individual pieces in a closely grouped series should be between 12” and 18” depending on the size of the piece
All placement should be uniform and hung so that it provides the best viewing and most enjoyment of patients and staff.
Artwork: Non Behavioral Health
FRAME
The proposed security framing solution for all artwork located in Behavioral Health areas shall provide a secure method of affixing the artwork structure (frame, glazing, image and backing material) to the wall that completely eliminates the potential of removal from the wall or potential use as a weapon by Behavioral Health Care consumers.
A variety of secure framing systems and secure framing methods exist that are considered acceptable solutions for this requirement. Acceptable systems may be proposed using either a commercially available item or a custom constructed security framing system.
Acceptable secure framing systems and secure framing methods shall incorporate hardwood in all components of a sufficient grade to allow for minimizing grain inconsistencies and to allow for the consistent acceptance of stains and finishes. Acceptable hardwoods for this solicitation include but are not limited to Poplar, Maple, Oak, Birch, Cherry and Walnut. For this solicitation, Pine species are considered softwoods which are not acceptable. MDF (medium density fiberboard), polystyrene, composite wood material frames or any frames having a plastic film finish or paper type film finish that replicates a wood‐grain are not acceptable.
Acceptable secure framing systems and secure framing methods shall incorporate the use of recessed and concealed toggle bolts for the purpose of mounting the frame system to the wall. All toggle bolt heads shall be non snake‐eye and tamper resistant, Tamperproof Screw Company, Inc or equal. Any secondary screws required as part the proposed secure framing system or secure framing method shall be recessed, concealed and shall be non snake‐eye and tamper resistant. Hollow wall anchors are not acceptable for this installation.
Acceptable secure framing systems and secure framing methods shall include a solution for the concealment of all mounting hardware to include the non snake‐eye toggle bolts and any secondary associated non snake‐eye, tamper resistant screw heads. Concealment of all recessed mounting hardware shall be achieved through the use of finished wood plugs of the same species, coloration and finish, set flush to the frame surface or through the use of non‐removable hardwood design elements and details inherent to the proposed secure framing system or secure framing method.
Acceptable secure framing systems or secure framing method shall eliminate, to the greatest extent possible, any finished visibility of the mounting hardware locations on the surface of the frame. In order to achieve this requirement, particular attention should be given to the end product aesthetic with regard to the concealment of mounting hardware.
Acceptable secure framing systems and secure framing methods shall be mounted to the wall through the use of an adequate number of non snake‐eye, tamper resistant toggle bolts and/or screws along the four sides of the proposed framing system. At a minimum, the proposed secure framing system or secure framing method shall be mounted to the wall through the use of non snake eye, tamper resistant toggle bolts at each of the four corners and shall not start more than 2” away from each of the four corners, both horizontally and vertically. In addition, each horizontal and vertical side of the proposed framing system shall be mounted to the wall through the use of non snake eye, tamper resistant toggle bolts every 6”, dependent on finished size of the artwork. This number of mounting points is required in order to ensure that the acceptable secure framing system or secure framing method fits tightly against the wall, eliminating the potential of the frame bowing
Artwork: Behavioral Health from the wall. In addition, the numbers of mounting points are required in order to minimize the opportunity of attaching ligatures to the frame within the required 1/8” to 1/16” gap tolerance.
Acceptable secure framing systems and secure framing methods shall have an overall viewable frame width of 2”‐3”. The proposed secure framing system or secure framing method shall include either a sloped radius or beveled edge from the wall to the face plane of the frame solution. The sloped radius or beveled edge shall be of a sufficient degree in order to eliminate ALL 90 degree planes or “ledges” as part of the overall design. Acceptable secure framing systems or secure framing method shall provide an overall design that reduces the risk of ligatures being attached.
Acceptable secure framing systems or secure framing methods shall allow for any ligatures to fall free, removing the possibility of temporary ligature attachment to the framing solution. In addition, all corners shall be eased in order to eliminate sharp edges to prevent injury.
Where acceptable secure framing systems and secure framing methods meets the wall upon installation, the resulting joint tolerances of 1/8” to 1/16” shall be maintained and shall be sealed with a transparent low VOC pick‐resistant security sealant, Sika Corporation Silkaflex‐2c NS or equal to further reduce the opportunity of attaching ligatures to the frame within the required installation tolerance. Sealant shall be applied to the resulting joint tolerances between the secure framing system and the wall in a consistent manner. Sealant shall maintain contact with the secure framing system and the wall during application while filing the required joint tolerance.
Acceptable framing systems and solutions shall have a natural Maple finish.
Images shall be mounted to 3/16” paper‐faced foam board, Foam‐Core brand or equal, for stability and sealed within the framing structure with a craft paper backing, ULINE Color Kraft or equal.
MATTING
Off White 4‐inch single matting on all four sides of the image Proposed mats shall be buffered to an alkaline reserve of 3‐5%, 4‐ply, 1/16” thick.
Mats should be cut to fit the image size (with any borders & titles cropped)
GLAZING
In lieu of glass, all framed artwork shall receive a clear, hard coat shatterproof polycarbonate sheeting protection at a minimum 1/8” thickness, SABIC brand “Lexan” MR10 Sheet with Margard II UV and Abrasion‐resistant coating or equal. Proposed shatterproof polycarbonate shall not distort or blur framed image.
HARDWARE
All Behavioral Health artwork shall include a security framing system or solution as noted in Section
4.2.1 above for secure installation.
