About this file
This document is a Special Use Permit issued by the National Park Service (NPS) for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to conduct maintenance dredging of the Great Kills Harbor Federal Navigation Channel in the Gateway National Recreation Area. The permit authorizes the USACE to remove approximately 200,000 cubic yards of dredged material to a depth of 10 feet below mean lower low water plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth, where shoaling has reduced the channel depth. The dredged material will be placed at an approved remediation site outside of the park. The permit outlines specific terms and conditions, including safety and security requirements, vegetation protection measures, and reporting obligations. It is valid from the date of signature through February 15, 2025.
The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation issued by the USACE New York District to perform this maintenance dredging project. The project involves removing approximately 200,000 cubic yards of dredged material from Great Kills Harbor and placing it at the Historic Area Remediation Site. The dredging is required to maintain the authorized project depth of -10 feet and -8 feet mean lower low water, plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth.
