AMENDMENT 0004
R471-460 Levee Raise W912DQ19B1018 Doniphan County, KS and Buchanan County, MO
The SOLICITATION is amended as follows:
NOTE: Deleted text is shown with strikethrough. Added text is shown with underline.
1. SPECIFICATIONS:
a. Section 35 41 00.01 23 Paragraph 3.5 Dewatering and Diversion
Surface water and groundwater control shall be accomplished in coordination with the required excavation and fill construction. Groundwater shall be maintained at least 3 feet below excavations required for construction of levee features. Surface and/or groundwater control may necessitate the use of temporary diversion ditches, cofferdams and/or dewatering. Methods for care of surface water and for controlling the surface and groundwater levels will be subject to approval of the Contracting Officer. It is anticipated the groundwater elevation will be approximated by the water surface elevation of the Missouri River adjacent to the project area.
Historical river elevations and stage-duration curves for the Missouri River gage at St. Joseph are provided in the construction drawings.
It is anticipated the groundwater elevation will be approximated by the water surface elevation of the Missouri River adjacent to the project area. Historical river elevations and stage-duration curves for the Missouri River gage at St. Joseph are provided in the construction drawings. The need for dewatering and surface water diversion for required excavations and excavation backfill will vary seasonally with river levels and the contractors sequencing of work. Surface water and groundwater control shall be accomplished in coordination with the required excavation and fill construction to ensure groundwater is maintained at least 3 feet below the bottom of required excavations at levee features (not required for borrow excavations). Surface and/or groundwater control may necessitate the use of temporary diversion ditches, cofferdams and/or dewatering. Methods for care of surface water and for controlling the surface and groundwater levels will be subject to approval of the Contracting Officer.
b. Section 35 41 00.01 23 Paragraph 3.16.3 Compaction of Fill
After a layer of fill material has been dumped and spread, it shall be harrowed to break up and blend the fill materials and to obtain uniform moisture distribution. Each lift of impervious, pervious, and random fill will be compacted by not less than 4 passes of compaction equipment suitable to the type of material being placed as specified in paragraph Compaction Equipment.
Each lift of berm random fill will be compacted by evenly distributing the travel paths of equipment used to place the material. Dumping, spreading, sprinkling, and compacting may be performed at the same time at different points along a section when there is sufficient area to
W912DQ19B1018
permit these operations to proceed simultaneously. Compaction equipment shall be operated such that the strip being traversed by the roller shall overlap the rolled adjacent strip by not less than 3 feet.
Each lift of impervious fill, pervious fill, or random fill to be placed on the levee embankment or stability berm will be roller compacted to 95 percent of ASTM D 698. Fill must be within the range of -1 to +3 percent of optimum moisture content at the time of compaction. Fill placed adjacent to structures will meet this same compaction requirement.
Each lift of berm random fill will be compacted by evenly distributing the travel paths of equipment used to place the material, with a minimum of 4 passes per lift required.
c. Section 35 41 00.01 23 Paragraph 3.16.4 Additional Rolling Coverages for Compaction
If the Contracting Officer determines that the desired compaction of the berm random fill is not achieved by the number of coverages specified, additional complete coverages shall be made over the surface area as directed by the Contracting Officer. Payment for additional coverages rolling directed by the Contracting Officer shall be made if specified in the contract documents;
however, no payment will be made for additional rolling coverages not specifically directed by the Contracting Officer.
