About this file
This document outlines the desired attributes for the Light Tactical Trailer – Heavy Chassis (LTT-HC), a military transport vehicle designed for tactical operations. The trailer must be equipped with lifting and tiedown provisions and all painted surfaces must be compatible with Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC), including cleaning, pretreatment, priming, and top coating. A DS2 decontamination bracket must be mounted on the trailer tongue without interfering with operation or payload. The trailer track width must match the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) with a center-to-center tire distance of 71.6 inches (±1.0 inch), and it must achieve a minimum departure angle of 38 degrees at Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
The LTT-HC shall be furnished with HMMWV radial wheels, radial tires, and runflat devices, capable of operating with one tire deflated for a minimum of 30 miles at 30 miles per hour on flat paved surfaces. All lights must be 24-volt with blackout tail and stop lamps, compatible with the HMMWV 12-pin trailer connector. The trailer must interface with both HMMWV and Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV) pintles and include safety chains, an adjustable pedestal/retractable landing device with combination wheel and plate for leveling, and rear stabilizer legs for longitudinal slope stabilization. All arc welding must comply with Ground Combat Welding Codes for steel and aluminum. The trailer must be maintainable using specified grease and brake fluid without performance degradation. When specified, contractors shall provide a universal Advanced Medium Mobile Power sources (AMMPS) mounting kit with mounting rails for generators, fenders, operator and step floors, and mounts for accessories box, fire extinguisher, and switch box, without negatively impacting generator operation, accessibility, or maintainability.

Safety Chains. To protect from loss of trailer control in the event of pintle or lunette failure, safety chains shall be provided on all trailers.
Pedestal/Retractable Landing Device. An adjustable leg shall be provided to allow a trailer without prime mover to be leveled. The landing device shall possess a combination wheel and plate. The device shall provide leveling capability in soft soil conditions should the wheel or fork be disabled.
Rear Stabilizer Legs. Rear stabilizer legs shall be provided which stabilize the trailer on longitudinal slopes.
Breakaway. The trailer shall be equipped with a breakaway feature.
DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A: Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.
Lubricants/Fluids. Trailer shall be capable of being maintained using specified grease at all required lubrication points and brake fluid without any adverse performance, reliability or durability impact.
Welding. All Arc Welding shall be in accordance with Ground Combat Welding Codes - Steel and Aluminum.
Advanced Medium Mobile Power sources (AMMPS) Mounting Kit. When specified the contractor shall provide a universal AMMPS mounting kit for the LTT-HC that will have mounting rails to accommodate generators. The AMMPS kit shall also provide fenders, operator floor, step floor, and mounts for an accessories box, a fire extinguisher and a switch box. This kit shall not negatively impact the operation, accessibility (e.g. AMMPS door openings and fluid drain provisions) and the maintainability of the generator sets mounted on the LTT-HC.
