About this file
This document is a data sheet for the Vehicle Protection Systems (VPS) Base Kit (VBK) Generation 2, designed for U.S. Army ground vehicle platforms. The system includes three primary components: the Modular Active Controller (MAC), the User Interface Control Panel (UICP), and the Power Management Distribution System (PMDS). The VBK provides a Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) within the Survivability domain, enabling modularity, scalability, and reconfigurability for layered capabilities across different missions, platforms, and threats.
The MAC serves as the primary control unit, featuring an Intel 12 Core Processor, 16 AVB-capable Ethernet interfaces, and multiple communication ports. The UICP offers crew members control and status capabilities with emergency stop, power control, and arming functions. The PMDS manages power distribution across 17 power channels, supporting low, medium, and high-power subsystems. The system is designed for harsh environments, with an operating temperature range of -40°F to 160°F, and meets military standards for electromagnetic compatibility, shock, and vibration. It boasts a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of ≥3,500 hours and low maintenance requirements, with a focus on increasing soldier survivability.

Figure 1: Gen2 VBK (MAC, UICIP & PMDS)
The Vehicle Protection Systems (VPS) Base Kit (VBK) is designed to provide a Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) within the
Survivability domain for U.S. Army ground vehicle platforms. It includes the Modular Active Controller (MAC), the User Interface Control Panel
(UICP) and the Power Management Distribution System (PMDS), enabling modularity, scalability, and reconfigurability for layered capabilities. The
VBK supports rapid development for specific missions, platforms, and threats, reducing costs and increasing soldier survivability.
Provides control and coordination for the Vehicle Protection System (VPS).
