Install a plug at the root valve for the branch run and demolish and dispose of the entire fire system within the temporary wall. QUESTION: Please provide more details of this requirements. | A record drawing of the fire protection system as currently installed in the temporary wall area is unavailable. Additional as-built drawings of the raw water and fire protection systems within the powerhouse are available. The work is to include removal of all fire protection piping, hangers, components, etc. downstream from the closest valve serving the temporary wall work area. If the valve is threaded, than it should be plugged, if it is flanged, then blind off. |
To support the wall replacement project, contractor and subcontractors will need to move some materials and equipment through the powerhouse. Materials and equipment would be limited to scaffolding materials, temporary barrier wall materials (primarily plywood), materials to build the wainscotting tile wall, new door assembly, new exhaust units, and the new floor grates. Materials would be moved using manual push carts and panels carts. Equipment would include the abatement exhaust units and small tool carts. At this time, it is anticipated that forklifts or scissor/man lifts are not going to be required to perform the work, and if required, would NOT be moved through the Powerhouse. The contractor requires confirmation the acceptability of the intent to move the material and equipment that is anticipated through the Powerhouse. All abatement material will be removed through the exterior side of the existing temporary wall. | Moving new construction materials through the powerhouse as described using push carts and panel carts is acceptable. A pre-construction inspection should be preformed prior to commencing work to determine and inventory any existing damage to powerhouse floor. Any damage as a result of construction activities will be the responsibility of the contractor to correct. |
The contractor request clarification that the new wainscotting tiles wall is to be installed on the generator level of the new wall. This wainscotting wall will be approximately 10’-6” above the Powerhouse lower level bottom floor and start at the level of the new floor grating to be installed. The lover level of the new wall will not have any covering over the interior side of the steel frame (occupants would be looking at the steel structure and backside of the painted concrete panel if standing under the steel grate deck). | This assessment is correct. The wainscot only needs to be installed at the powerhouse finish floor level to 10’-6” above the floor, to align with the top of the existing tile wainscot. Tiles will be installed on the concrete panels between the steel structural supports. Visibility below the grating is not a concern. The tile wainscot is required for the concrete panel option and is optional in the hybrid concrete panel/metal panel option (depending on how tall the concrete base panels are.) The wainscot will not be required for the metal panel only option. |
Please confirm if the new door to be installed in the new wall at the lower level is to be considered an emergency exit. If an emergency exit, exit lighting will be provided. If required to be an emergency exit, is another door with proper stair assembly required to be installed at the generator floor level at 10’-6” above the Powerhouse bottom floor since the new floor grating will be providing a level surface to the new wall? | The new lower level door is not considered to be an emergency exit and will not require emergency exit lighting, nor is an additional exit stair from the lower level required. |
The contractor's technical approach will rely on access to the dirt road to the west of the Powerhouse for establishing a “pick site” for the crane. Please confirm the contractor will access to the North entry and the ability to utilize this road for material pick site for the crane operations. | Access to the west side of the powerhouse is available via the gravel road, approaching either from the north and through the security fence or from the south around the powerhouse.
